This is Betty at Preston Glades Care Home, photographed by a fellow resident.

We've been using disposable cameras to capture life in our homes, handing them to residents, families and team members to document moments that matter to them. Winding the film, looking through the viewfinder and pressing the shutter reminds us of Christmases gone by.

We think Betty looks wonderful here. And we love that this moment was captured by her friend. ✨

The Pantastic Duo visited us with their steel pans and cajón. 🎵

Residents, families and our team members all joined in with pom-poms, tambourines and ribbons.

For those living with dementia, music is a powerful wellbeing tool. Live music often helps us learn something new about the person we’re supporting. Different sounds connect with people in different ways and we take the time to understand what helps each person feel settled and engaged.

We had a such a giggle at Barton Grange Garden Centre. 🎄

We explored the Christmas displays and enjoyed lunch at the cafe.

Outings like these are a regular part of our wellbeing programme, offering opportunities to get out into our community and socialise with one another.

Now our own trees are up, we're all feeling very Christmassy and would love to welcome you for a hot chocolate and marshmallows. 🥰

📸 Capturing the Moment.

We’ve been using a disposable camera to record meaningful moments within our shared home community. Residents, loved ones and our teams were encouraged to take part, shaping an authentic narrative of daily life.

As with all our work, the idea was grounded in research. The nostalgic, sensory experience of winding the film, looking through the viewfinder and pressing the shutter prompts conversation, memory and emotional connection.

This project is a reminder that progress isn’t always digital. Sometimes the most effective approaches are those that slow us down, create presence and invite participation.

The photos will feature on this year’s Christmas card and be proudly displayed in our home; a clear example of how simple, evidence-informed ideas can help us deliver our purpose.

Have you joined us this week? We would love to know what made you smile during a recent visit to Preston Glades. 🥰

We've been getting creative with festive arts and craft. 🎨🎄

There's such pride in being able to contribute and make our home cosy and Christmassy. Having meaningful ways to be involved and seeing the results on display gives us such a wonderful sense of purpose.

These creative activities are a regular part of our wellbeing programme, supporting fine motor skills, cognitive engagement and self-expression. Thanks to our fantastic Wellbeing Lead Lyndsey and wonderful volunteer David for organising such wonderful activities.

Remembrance Day at Preston Glades. 🌺

Adi the Piano Man joined us for Remembrance Day. He sung songs we all know so well and we danced and sang-along. It took us back to the war years, giving us chance us to reflect and share stories.

Thank you to Adi for making the day feel so meaningful and to the team and families who joined us to honour it.

Halloween celebrations at Preston Glades! 🎃

We decorated pumpkins, tucked into a delicious buffet, played games and danced. It was lovely to see so many smiles and so much laughter.

Halloween was a wonderful reminder of how being positive and light-hearted plays such an important role in wellbeing. We can't wait for our next party!

Our pub lunch outing and a walk by the docks. ☀️

We headed out to the Rubble Pilot for lunch. The food was lovely and we enjoyed getting out and about.

Afterwards we had a nice stroll along Preston Dock. Fresh air, good conversations and lots of laughter. Building these meaningful moments together is what life here at Preston Glades is all about.

The Lost and Found Choir sang for us and we loved it! 🎶

What a wonderful day. We sang along and some of us had a dance too.

We finished off the evening with hot chocolate and warm currant teacakes which went down a treat. It was such a cosy day perfect for this time of year.

Here's hoping you're feeling as cosy as we are as the nights start drawing in. 🥰
