💗 Leading with Love: Slimming World Members Join Busy Body’s Bra Bank for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October, members of Slimming World Ainsdale and Southport with Kelly came together in a powerful show of community spirit. Inspired by Jean, one of our incredible Saturday morning members at Fleetwood Hesketh, the groups proudly joined Busy Body’s in Birkdale to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The initiative was created and led by Jan and Lucy Morton, owners of Busy Body’s Lingerie Birkdale Their passion and dedication to breast cancer awareness has been felt across the community. With a new bra bank launched at 42E Liverpool Road, they invited locals to donate unwanted bras to raise vital funds for breast cancer charities. Having seen their commitment first-hand, we can say with confidence that Busy Body’s didn’t just participate — they led the way with heart and purpose.

Our Slimming World members were honoured to get involved, donating generously from both Ainsdale Methodist Church and Fleetwood Hesketh. These bras will be sorted and either reused to support small businesses in developing countries or recycled to reduce landfill waste. For every tonne collected, £700 is donated to fund life-saving breast cancer research. It’s a beautiful example of how small acts of kindness can create global ripples.

Busy Body’s also offers specialist fittings for women who have undergone breast surgery. Their trained stylists, with years of experience working alongside breast care nurses, provide post-surgery lingerie designed to help women feel confident, comfortable and beautifully supported. These values align perfectly with the Slimming World ethos of empowerment and wellbeing.

This isn’t the first time Southport’s Slimming World members have stepped up for a cause. Earlier this year, our local groups raised an incredible £57,000 for Cancer Research UK by donating clothes they had slimmed out of through the Big Slimming World Clothes Throw. Nationally, Slimming World has raised over £25 million for Cancer Research UK through events like Race for Life and ongoing fundraising campaigns.

To every member who donated, shared or championed this cause, thank you. And to Jan and Lucy at Busy Body’s, your leadership lit the way. Together, we’ve shown that Slimming World is not just about slimming down. It’s about lifting each other up, standing together and making a difference that truly matters.

We did this together, as one incredible Slimming World family – with every item donated to the Big Slimming World Clothes Throw, and every step taken for Race for Life and the London Marathon 🤗.

Still feels like a dream ✨
In 2023 I had the incredible honour of being crowned Slimming World’s National Woman of the Year. It was an experience I’ll never forget ❤️

Losing 18 and a half stone has changed my life in more ways than I could ever have imagined. Standing on that stage, celebrating everything I’d worked for, was one of the proudest moments of my life.

Slimming World doesn’t just help people lose weight. It truly transforms lives, and in so many cases, it saves them. The support, community and belief this organisation gives is something really special, and I’ll forever be grateful.

On the eve of this year’s awards, I want to wish all the finalists the very best of luck 🌟
Enjoy every single moment. Soak up the excitement, the celebrations, and the love that’s coming your way. You’ve earned it, and you truly deserve it.
