Summer is for many, a much-needed break from stress and work. During the summer holiday, it is also pretty easy to catch a case of summer FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). It's quite common to fear summer disappearing right before our eyes.
You might want to catch up with a lot of things during your vacay, but it is equally important to take time to rest. Recovering from a stressful everyday life is important for both your body and your mental health.
Stress can be good for us, but in small doses, it can provide extra strength and energy when we need it. But if we stress too much and for a long time, it has a negative effect on the body. For example, it can lead to problems such as high blood pressure and muscle aches. (Muscle aches is one of the ways my body lets me know that I'm imbalanced). If you are used to living at a high and stressful pace, it can be difficult to completely relax, even on your days off. Here are some tips on things that can help you rest properly.
○Make time for downtime - Make relaxation a priority on your calendar just like any other important appointment.
○Give your mind a break- Resting your mind is just as important as resting your body. Close your eyes for a second, take slow deep breaths, and just unplug from the world for a second or two. My favorite thing to do is to lay outside in the sun on a blanket with my dog:)
○Consider taking part in activities that require your complete attention, such as cooking, hanging out with loved ones, reading, team sports, etc. This type of activity can give you a mental break by helping you to stay fully present.
○Go offline - Take a break from the digital world. Being online can make us feel offline and make it harder to relax and rest. Try to turn off your phone and do something just for you.
○Resting is essential for our well-being. Make sure to make time for it. If you can't make time for daytime rest, make sure you get a good night's sleep for your body, mind, and soul.
What is your favorite way to unwind after a stressful time?
