Episurf Medical

Episurf Medical Episurf is a Swedish medical device company offering personalised implant solutions for patients. The joint implant is CE-marked and called Episealer®.

Episurf Medical combines advanced 3D imaging technology with the latest manufacturing technology to create personalised implants for patients suffering from articular cartilage damage and underlying bone lesions. We use MR/CT images to create a virtual 3D model of the knee/ankle. The implant thickness and the surface geometry of the Episealer® can then be adapted to fit the patient’s lesion and anatomy. Episealer® Knee and Episealer® Talus have helped many patients back to living an active life! Please visit our website for more information >> www.episurf.com

The surgeon’s thoughts on the procedure: “After arthrotomy I was appeased I made a good decision to choose Episealer®. The osteochondral defect was too small to require a unicompartmental or total knee prosthesis for this young man (39 y.o.). The pre-op planning that I received was really helpful and exceeded my expectations. Drilling with Epiguide® was easy and precise. It didn’t take much time. I’m looking forward to the patient’s satisfaction soon.”

This Episealer® surgery was performed at a hospital in Poznań, Poland.

A new Q&A is out – this week we focus on how we design the surface of the implant to match each individual’s joint surface.

Surface design is key to ensuring a patient-specific fit and restoring natural joint function, helping patients regain mobility and relieve pain.

Did you know that more than one Episealer® implant can be used in the same knee to treat multiple defects? This knee surgery was performed in Germany by one of our most experienced users, Professor Dr. med. Clemens Kösters.

The Damage Marking Report (DMR) provides a detailed 3D model of the patient’s knee, visualising the size and position of the defect, along with the proposed implant. The Final Design document shows the implant design and the precise positioning of the personalised drill guide – ensuring accurate placement.

Persistent knee pain?

Cartilage helps your knee move smoothly – but when it’s damaged, it has very limited ability to heal. Injuries, or simple wear and tear can lead to lasting pain and reduced mobility.

If left untreated, a cartilage lesion can develop into osteoarthritis over time. If you’re not ready for a full knee replacement and want to preserve your natural anatomy, talk to your doctor about whether a personalised solution like Episealer® could be right for you.

When planning an Episealer® Knee procedure, surgeons can use our platform to explore a detailed 3D model of the patient’s knee.

This allows them to clearly see:
➡ The size and depth of the cartilage damage
➡ The condition of the underlying bone
➡ The design and placement of the personalised implant
➡ The exact position of the drill guide

All to help plan a precise, patient-specific procedure.
