🏆 Congratulations to our latest Scholarly Award Recipients: Grayson Heck and a large group of Good Shepherd clinicians who shared research at AMRPA.

Grayson, a physical therapy neurologic resident, collaborated on and presented “Tumarkin-Like Phenomenon Following Resolution of Horizontal Semicircular Canal Apogeotropic BPPV: A Case Study” at the APTA Pennsylvania MOVE Conference last October. The case study was honored as the Best Case Study Report Award.

The outstanding group of more than a dozen colleagues across service lines presented original research at AMRPA last fall. Together, they represent a shared education to questioning, learning and improving how we help patients recover and thrive.

The Scholarly Award recognizes Good Shepherd team members' achievements in teaching, practice advancement, innovation or research. Well done!

400 nursing staff members. 4 days. 1 location.

Hosting an annual, all-network education event is no small feat. Good Shepherd's nursing educators did just that — and more — in March with detailed planning, a passion for education and close partnership with Cedar Crest College School of Nursing.

“In over 30 years of being a nurse, including large, academic medical centers, I have never seen a better nursing mandatory education,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Thea Burke, DNP, RN, NE-BC.

"Considering where I was, I've come a long way."

After suffering a stroke 4 years ago, Brad has made significant progess in his aquatic therapy sessions at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation in South Allentown.

Here, Brad works on balance with less support using various techniques.

Nearly 300 Good Shepherd Rehabilitation colleagues gathered March 26 at ArtsQuest Center to celebrate incredible employee achievements at the Annual Celebration of Employment (ACE) Awards.

In addition to recognizing team members celebrating between five and 40 years of service at Good Shepherd, we also celebrated the recipients of the annual Raker Spirit Award and the Pathfinder Innovation Award. Tammy Kissel, a certified occupational therapy assistant at Good Shepherd Home - Raker Center, is the 2026 Raker Spirit Award recipient. Meanwhile, Good Shepherd’s Admissions team and Mandula Seneviratne, a speech-language pathologist at Good Shepherd’s pediatric hospital, received Pathfinder Innovation Awards for their outstanding efforts.

The evening also celebrated nursing team members who achieved advanced levels of certification, as well as clinicians who achieved Advanced Clinician status.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees!

You can't help but laugh along with Camila during a recent therapy session in South Allentown.

Camila uses the spinning chair during her pediatric therapy to help her brain and body feel more balanced and "in control."

When kids feel regulated from activities like this, they can focus better, join activities easier and communicate more.

Never stop finding joy in the little things, Camila!

Special thanks to Mountainville Fire Co #16 for their generous support in helping acquire equipment like this that makes big differences in children's lives.

While traveling in New York, North Carolina resident Drew Katona was hit by a sudden and severe onset of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare, incurable condition that wrecked his nervous system, completely paralyzed him and took away his speech.

A social, outgoing guy, Drew's happiness and affable personality come through in his colorful language and stories, so not being able to communicate was devastating.

The lingering paralysis still affects his speech but hasn’t hurt his sense of humor. Drew’s still recovering, having relearned how to communicate and slowly regaining mobility — a complex journey that included five months at two Good Shepherd Rehabilitation hospitals.

Drew and his wife, Yvonne, finally returned home in September 2025. A two-day trip had become an eight-month trip.

Drew and Yvonne still have big plans. They want to travel to southern France and see the lavender fields in summer. They want to revisit Paris and Rome, their favorite cities. Pennsylvania’s on the travel list, too.

“My goal is to walk back into the rehab up [in Center Valley] and scare the … out of everyone again!” Drew yelled excitedly.

Yvonne clarified, laughing: “We want to thank everyone up there.”
