This April, Miller-Keystone Blood Center is partnering with Lehigh Valley hotel groups for a high-impact, month-long blood donation challenge, designed to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood and promote meaningful community action across the Lehigh Valley.

Inspired by competitive spirit, this campaign unites hotel teams in a friendly competition to see who can recruit the most donors. By leveraging the industry’s strong community ties and leadership networks, the initiative positions blood donation as a powerful act of service, teamwork, and local pride.

Last week, MKBC team members had the honor of meeting with Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jay Ostrich, Director of Berks County Department of Veterans Affairs, at our Reading Donor Center, and it left a lasting impact.

Together, we’re proud to move forward in supporting our local veterans through the Veterans Still Serving program. This is more than a partnership. It’s a shared mission.

In Berks County, 6% of our population are veterans. These are the men and women who once served all of us and now, many are searching for purpose, connection, and support.

Programs like Veterans Still Serving offers those things, and the opportunity to continue saving lives. Blood donation is more than a gift; it’s a mission. One that reminds our veterans that they are still needed, still valued, and still making a difference.

We’re inspired by the opportunity to stand alongside Berks County Veterans Affairs to create real impact through volunteer opportunities, employment pathways, Adopt-a-Day initiatives, and the support of generous donors.

This is how we serve those who served us.

Building the future of lifesaving care 💉❤️

On March 24th, MKBC team members Hannah Henninger and Jessica Gauthier had the opportunity to speak with the talented students of the Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School Phlebotomy program about what it means to join the front lines of blood collection. From our recruitment process and hands-on phlebotomist training to current openings in Collections, we were proud to share how a career at MKBC turns skill into impact.

Phlebotomists are more than technicians. They are the connection between generous donors and the patients whose lives depend on them. And the need for highly trained, compassionate collections specialists has never been greater.

A sincere thank you to Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School and its students for your engagement, enthusiasm, and commitment to this vital field. We look forward to seeing the next generation of lifesavers step forward.
