Pilates has prepared me for this moment. At age 64.
Through strength training in Pilates I continually get stronger. I had taken any kind of running off the table for years, but this weekend I added some running into my hiking. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

One of my favorites in the Pilates Mat work is Corkscrew.
It helps me with the imbalances in my body, and feels amazing!
Corkscrew can be done many ways, I am showing 2 variations here.

***In the 1st variation I do a roll over, then roll down the right side of my spine and roll up the left side of my spine. Then I reverse it.

***In the 2nd variation I am rotating around my sacrum while keeping my spine on the mat.

This was the first moment out of the woods since 6:30 am!

Here I am showing some options for hip opening, while also opening my thoracic spine (the part of our spine that is attached to our ribs).

There is a correlation between our hips and thoracic spine. If you want one to be in alignment, strong and healthy , the other better be! So we must look at full body alignment, strengthening and flexibility to make all the parts work.

Additionally, every movement in the studio gets me ready for every outdoor activity I take on. Not just one exercise or focus for one body part.

Preparation is key to continued movement as we age. Preparation helps us to avoid injury, as well as helps us to work out of injury and strengthen.

Donโ€™t wait until there is an issue to put mindful, meaningful movement into your repertoire. And definitely donโ€™t wait until you get โ€œolderโ€ to pay attention and take care of business. Because you will be good until you arenโ€™t any more. The timing is different for everyone but it always seems to catch up with people.

Do it now, do it at any age, but do it sooner rather than later.
