Today is Autism Awareness Day 💙

Autism can co-occur in individuals with Down syndrome, with current estimates ranging from 1–10%—higher than in the general population.

Each of these numbers represents a unique individual with their own strengths, challenges, and way of experiencing the world. Some may communicate differently, learn differently, or need extra support—but every person deserves to be understood, included, and valued.

Today is a reminder to lead with patience, compassion, and a willingness to meet each person where they are. 💙

I recently had the privilege of attending the Brighter Futures: A National Conference on Adults with Down Syndrome and Aging in Massachusetts. I left inspired and motivated by the incredible work happening nationwide to support adults with Down syndrome at every stage of life.

During the sessions, I focused on the issues I hear from you—housing, technology for independence, caregiver support, and navigating big life transitions. I also learned from leading organizations researching the connection between Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s.

I returned home energized and full of ideas to strengthen our programs and support our community. Your voices, experiences, and dedication are what keep me motivated every day. Together, we’re building brighter futures—for today, and for every stage of life ahead.
