Pennsylvania Resumes Paying Full SNAP Benefits following End of Federal Government Shutdown: https://bit.ly/3JygZJN

DHS has restarted issuing full November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit payments, ending the disruption created by the federal government shutdown and the Trump Administration’s unwillingness to use United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) contingency and other available funding to continue food assistance through the shutdown.

Benefits are going out and should be paid to all SNAP recipients by the end of the week.

“I again want to extend my deepest gratitude to our food banks, food pantries, and every Pennsylvanian who showed the true meaning of community through this crisis. I am relieved we can finally get these critical benefits out, and I urge those who are able to continue to support to our charitable food network as they stabilize and restock to continue their essential work,” said DHS Secretary Val Arkoosh. “While the federal government has resumed operations, the effects of this shutdown will last.”

Have you heard the news? Neighborhood Health Centers is the official healthcare partner for the new Gateway on Fourth affordable housing development to be built in Southside Bethlehem starting next year.

"The housing agency will match the $400,000 investment from the Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley — which will operate the health clinic anchoring the 44-unit mid-rise building.

"By integrating healthcare services directly into the development through our partnership with the Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley, we're not just building housing — we're investing in the long-term health and stability of South Bethlehem residents," Fisher said."

Read this Lehighvalleynews.com article for an overview on the project:

The Gateway on Fourth, a 120-unit affordable housing project, expected to cost $29 million, just received $16 million in highly competitive tax credits awarded by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency board. Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley

NHCLV was officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2004 by a group of concerned community residents. Their goal was to meet the need for a coordinated system of primary care for the uninsured and/or underinsured residents in the Lehigh Valley.

NHCLV, after obtaining designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center-Look-Alike (FQHC-LA) in September 2010, submitted a New Access Point application in November 2010 and was awarded grant funding in 2012. NHCLV currently operates one primary care site, Vida Nueva at Casa and is the first Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in the Lehigh Valley.

An estimated 37,770 persons reside in NHCLV’s service area, of which 70.4% (26,583) are below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), including 15,390 persons whose income level falls below 100% of the FPL. The racial make-up of the service area is 59.3% Hispanic or Latino, 48.8% White, 21.2% Black/African-American, and the remaining 1.6% is Asian, multi-racial, or other. The service area population that is uninsured numbers 7,752 persons, all of whom are part of NHCLV’s target population. The target population confronts obstacles to obtaining routine and preventive primary care services due to linguistic and transportation barriers and extreme poverty.

Health disparities in the service area include high infant mortality rates, low birth weight, teen pregnancies, heart disease, cancer, su***de, and diabetes.
