Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajee’oon.
Our beloved Brother Musa has returned to Allah.
For decades, his bookstore As-Suq, located in downtown Brooklyn, was a staple in our community. As a Black American Muslim pioneer, Brother Musa helped build and nurture a space where so many of us came seeking books, knowledge, guidance, and connection. For many, it was more than a bookstore—it was a place that helped cultivate faith, learning, and community for generations.
This loss feels especially close to our family. My mother had the honor of delivering many of Brother Musa’s children as their midwife. And subhanAllah, many of the books I inherited from my mother’s personal collection were purchased from As-Suq.
It is a reminder of how deeply intertwined our community has been for decades.
May Allah reward Brother Musa abundantly for the family he raised, the knowledge he helped spread, and the countless lives touched through As-Suq. May all of it be a sadaqah jariyah for him.
May Allah forgive him, expand his grave, fill it with light, elevate his rank, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
May Allah grant patience and ease to his family and all who loved him.
Janazah details will be announced by his family soon, inshaAllah.
