Our team was excited to be in attendance for Mayor Mamdani's () 3-K announcement! This major program expansion will add more than 1,000 new seats for children across all five boroughs.

As Chancellor Kamar Samuels () said, "Expanding access to 3-K means giving more of our youngest New Yorkers the strong start they deserve".๐ŸŒป

We are so honored to announce that we have received a grant from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs' () FY2026 Cultural Development Fund (CDF)!

Center for Family Life believes that art and culture are the heart and soul of Sunset Park and beyond. We are proud to be among the nearly 1,200 groups receiving city support this year thanks to the partnership between the NYC Mayor's Office and the City Council.

This investment in our work will help us continue to bring accessible, affordable cultural programs to our community. The CDF grant will support programs like our "Life Lines" Community Arts Project that provide Sunset Park youth with innovative arts education.

We are partnering with Brooklyn Museum () to bring their Museum on Wheels to Sunset Park! ๐ŸŽจ

Our partnership will begin with a listening session, where community members are invited to gather and discuss how we can celebrate our neighborhood through art. This is your chance to share your voice, and be part of an exciting community experience!

The session will be co-hosted by the Brooklyn Museum and Center for Family Life and intends to bring together representatives from the community to discuss the communities' current priorities and relationship to arts and culture. Through facilitated discussions and art activities, participants can highlight essential needs within the local neighborhood and share programming ideas that uplift local cultural heritage and creative practices that are resonant to the neighborhood.

We at Center for Family Life are firm believers in the power of afterschool. ๐ŸŽ’

Through programs like CFL's, participants are provided invaluable supports like academic help, caring and supportive mentors, nutritious snacks and meals, and so much more.

Let Congress know that and urge them to increase funding for 21st CCLC in FY27 so more young people can access high-quality programs.

About Us

Center for Family Life, a program of SCO Family of Services, is a neighborhood-based family and social services organization with deep roots in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

Our mission is to promote positive outcomes for children, adults and families in Sunset Park through the provision of a comprehensive range of neighborhood-based family and social services. We partner with the community to provide access to resources and opportunities for personal growth and the development of interpersonal relationships that sustain and nurture families, support youth to develop into confident, capable adults and enrich the quality of life for neighborhood residents.

Sunset Park is a densely populated, low-income neighborhood with a large percentage of recent immigrants. Community residents have limited access to the resources needed to grow and thrive. Within this context, we offer a comprehensive range of programs and services that address familiesโ€™ needs from every angle. These include family counseling and neighborhood-based foster care; cultural, educational and recreational programs at neighborhood public schools, adult and youth employment programs; and an emergency storefront for food and advocacy.

Poverty, inadequate educational and limited employment opportunities are a few of the enormous challenges that Sunset Park residents confront. At the Center, we witness the energy, creativity, and productivity of community residents, as well as the powerful human struggle to overcome these challenges and gain access to the resources needed to sustain a vibrant and nurturing community. The Centerโ€™s work is rooted in the daily, lived experience of this community and guided by a vision of families and social institutions evolving over time and contributing to each otherโ€™s ongoing growth. We dedicate ourselves to service because we believe that the social inequity that impacts the residents of Sunset Park is deeply unjust, and that when inequity is eliminated, human potential becomes limitless.
