Last week, we were excited to welcome the new DCWP () Commissioner, Sam Levine, for a meet and greet!

We are so grateful to Councilmember Aviles () and her team for organizing this visit, and for their continued support of CFL.

We were joined by our partners at the Chinese American Planning Council (), Mixteca (), Raising Health (), and Voces Ciudadanas () for a wonderful roundtable conversation. Afterwards, the CFL team led Commissioner Levine on a tour of our tax program (make your appointment at the link in our bio)!

Thank you to everyone who makes our work possible!

We are excited to announce that the Center for Family Life Cooperative Development Program is incubating a new cooperative this year!

The team is currently seeking motivated, early-career professionals from multicultural backgrounds to attend information sessions and learn how to get involved in forming this new cooperative.

Participants will have the opportunity to apply and grow skills in marketing, business and financial operations, and customer service, while helping to incubate a worker-owned consulting cooperative. This opportunity is especially geared toward individuals who face barriers to traditional employment and are interested in participating in a cooperative, worker-owned business model.

You can help us expand our reach by sharing the flyer and inviting others to learn more at one of our information sessions this month.

Last month, members of our CFL team presented at the Baltimore conference organized by the Annie E. Casey Foundation ()!

CFL has maintained a long-standing collaborative relationship with the Annie E. Casey Foundation. In the past year, the foundation advanced CFL's understanding of community-based prevention program financing, facilitated a strategic partnership with the Mainspring team, and funded our co-designed mural located in the RISE UP Family Enrichment Center ().

The foundation's contributions help CFL stay connected and strengthen the community!

As a member of 's WholeYouNYC network, we are committed to ensuring our neighbors have access to nutritious and fresh foods. Community members can walk-in to our food pantry Tuesdays-Thursdays from 1PM-4PM, no referral needed.

Recently, members of our Community Services team attended City Harvest's Legislative Breakfast where elected officials and partners discussed the ongoing threat to food insecurity programs. We are filled with gratitude for the amazing people we partner with in the fight for food security.

About Us

Center for Family Life, a program of SCO Family of Services, is a neighborhood-based family and social services organization with deep roots in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

Our mission is to promote positive outcomes for children, adults and families in Sunset Park through the provision of a comprehensive range of neighborhood-based family and social services. We partner with the community to provide access to resources and opportunities for personal growth and the development of interpersonal relationships that sustain and nurture families, support youth to develop into confident, capable adults and enrich the quality of life for neighborhood residents.

Sunset Park is a densely populated, low-income neighborhood with a large percentage of recent immigrants. Community residents have limited access to the resources needed to grow and thrive. Within this context, we offer a comprehensive range of programs and services that address familiesโ€™ needs from every angle. These include family counseling and neighborhood-based foster care; cultural, educational and recreational programs at neighborhood public schools, adult and youth employment programs; and an emergency storefront for food and advocacy.

Poverty, inadequate educational and limited employment opportunities are a few of the enormous challenges that Sunset Park residents confront. At the Center, we witness the energy, creativity, and productivity of community residents, as well as the powerful human struggle to overcome these challenges and gain access to the resources needed to sustain a vibrant and nurturing community. The Centerโ€™s work is rooted in the daily, lived experience of this community and guided by a vision of families and social institutions evolving over time and contributing to each otherโ€™s ongoing growth. We dedicate ourselves to service because we believe that the social inequity that impacts the residents of Sunset Park is deeply unjust, and that when inequity is eliminated, human potential becomes limitless.
