Today is distribution day with Feed America First. This faith-based organization rescues large-scale food donations and redistributes them through a network of 200+ food pantries serving rural and small-town communities across Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Mississippi. Each month, millions of pounds of food reach more than 40,000 families in need. We are grateful to be part of this work.

We are incredibly grateful to Publix Charities for their generous $15,000 grant, which will help provide nourishing meals to those in need at the Downtown Rescue Mission.

This support will be used where it’s needed most:
• Winter Surge Support: Helping meet increased demand during the coldest months
• Year-Round Food Support: Strengthening our kitchen resources throughout the year

Thanks to this investment, approximately 6,695 meals will be served to individuals experiencing hunger, offering not only nourishment but dignity and hope.

Thank you, Publix Charities, for standing with our neighbors in need and helping us care for our community! 💚

Yesterday, KTECH celebrated the graduation of Class 23 at the Isenberg Event Center on the Kids to Love campus. During the ceremony, the Downtown Rescue Mission was honored with the Stronger Together Award, recognizing our longstanding partnership and shared commitment to workforce development.

Through this collaboration, nearly 20 individuals have come to KTECH through the Downtown Rescue Mission, creating meaningful pathways to training, employment and long-term stability.

The award highlights the impact of strong community partnerships in expanding access to opportunity and supporting student success.

Thank you, KTECH!

One of the primary goals of the Downtown Rescue Mission is to transform lives. While we provide warm meals and safe lodging, the greater goal is to break cycles of homelessness, addiction and abuse. We do this in two primary ways:

(1) By sharing the Gospel, because we know an abundant life is found only through Christ.

(2) To create sustainable career pathways that equip our graduates to support themselves long-term.

KTECH provides career development training that could otherwise be out of reach for our graduates. Because of this partnership, doors have been opened and lives have been changed. We are incredibly grateful to KTECH for their continued support.

Congratulations to our graduates:
- Todd Shoulders
- Timothy Heathershaw
- Donald Prince II
- Al Costal

Share the Warmth. Share the Love.

We’re partnering with One Warm Coat and MOD Pizza for a community coat drive supporting our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Donate a new or gently used coat at MOD Pizza in Madison, Alabama. Drop off a coat—and stay to enjoy a bite—anytime from November 24 through December 31.

Veterans hold a special place in our hearts at the Downtown Rescue Mission, and the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum shares that same passion. This week, they blessed us with a generous donation of coats, just in time for the colder weather this weekend. While here, they were able to meet two of our own veterans during the visit. We’re so grateful for this support as we care for those who served.

Construction across campus is making strong progress. In the Men’s ES, the check-in station is installed, plumbing is complete, lighting is up, and electrical work is nearly finished, with HVAC and duct work currently underway. The Women’s Program is close to completion as teams finalize HVAC, electrical, furniture installation, and security systems. The Women’s ES expansion is also moving forward, the wall has been opened to create two dorms, additional space for women and children is taking shape, and the dayroom only needs its final flooring.

Hope Lives Here

Downtown Rescue Mission is a Christ-centered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to bringing the hope of the Gospel to the hurting, hungry, and homeless in the Tennessee Valley.

For more than four decades, the Lord has used DRM's programs and services to rescue and transform lives for His glory. While the Mission is most known for providing free emergency services like meals, clothing, hygiene products, and overnight shelter, it also offers a free year-long life transformation and recovery program. This Christ-centered program is designed to equip its students with valuable life skills and life-changing Gospel truths to prepare them for life outside of the Mission.

In 2019, Downtown Rescue Mission served over 326,000 meals, its beds were slept in over 101,000 times, and 53 graduated the program.
