There’s a version of downtown Huntsville that feels brand new…and then there’s ours. Tucked right by Big Spring Park, Common Ground holds both. Inside it’s super cute and updated, outside it’s mature trees, azaleas showing off, dogwoods doing their thing, and magnolias that come back every year like they run the place (because they kinda do, they’ve been here long before us)!

It’s the kind of spot that makes you slow down without trying. Where you look out the window between clients and remember that there’s so much beauty all around.

Sometimes the path to becoming a therapist starts in unexpected places. 🌿

Zack Sheeley moved to Huntsville planning to become a pharmaceutical scientist, but after a frustrating experience trying to vent online, he decided to become the kind of listener he couldn’t find.

He started volunteering on an active listening platform, supporting people around the world, and quickly realized this was the work he was meant to do.

Zack went on to earn his master’s in clinical mental health counseling and now runs his own practice, . As an Associate Licensed Counselor, he practices under the supervision of John Thorington, LPC-S.

Zack is an autistic clinician, and he’s especially passionate about supporting neurodivergent people who may have felt misunderstood in traditional therapy spaces.

Sometimes after a heavy session, all you need is a quick moment where someone else gets it. Not a full consult. Not a long conversation.

Just a nod that says,
“Yep… I know that feeling.”

Private practice can be incredibly meaningful — but it can also be surprisingly isolating.

That’s one of the reasons we created Common Ground Cowork. A space where therapists can build independent practices while still having community nearby.

Because even therapists shouldn’t have to process the whole day alone.
