Disability Resource Network will be awarding two $1,500.00 scholarships. This scholarship is for graduating seniors with a disability residing in: Colbert, Cullman, Dekalb, Franklin, Jackson, Limestone, Lawrence, Lauderdale, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, or Winston counties.

Qualifications:

Have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA

Must have a disability

Must be a 2026 graduating High School Senior

Applications open 3/23/2026

Applications due 4/23/2026

Scholarships will be presented at the Sponsor/ Partner Reception in May

Disability Resource Network presented a Disability History Symposium on Thursday March 12th at the Hyatt Place at Research Park. The event was about the history of people with disabilities and highlighting their contributions. The program was opened with a welcome by Davina Patterson, Executive Director and facilitated by Taylor Wilson, Administrative Assistant.

The presenters discussed the history of assistive technology, human rights, and legislation. The phenomenal speakers topics were Unsung Heroes & Intersectionality in Disability Rights
by McCartney Hagar, From Where We Came and
Organizing Change by Brian Geiger, Ed.D., M.S., B.S., and The History of Adaptive Technology by Rosevelt Wright. The program concluded with
Closing Remarks by Rodney Jones, Independent Living Specialist.

Thank you to everyone that attended, our staff, board members, and presenters. We look forward to bringing more programs like this in the future.
