We are so sad that Pride Fest 2025 is cancelled this coming Saturday. Our heart goes out to the Knox Pride board, organizers, and volunteers who have worked so hard on this celebration.
Transcript: Hi everyone, It's John Camp with Knox Pride. I'm coming to you this morning with some not great news. I'm sure some of you have already heard some rumblings about Pride Fest 2025 and the parade and unfortunately with a heavy heard, we have to let you know that that is true. Pride Fest 2025 and the parade have been cancelled we have worked closely with the city to keep this from happening and they have been wonderful partners with us. but we were unable to secure liability insurance for the festival and parade at the last minute. I know that this is disheartening, disappointing and upsetting for a lot of folks. It's extremely upsetting for us and nothing we wanted to come with to talk to you about today. but we are where we are at the moment and we will work to have a solution for 2026 so we don't run into this problem again.

the other thing is safety is a huge concern right now for our community around the country. and a vey real thing her in Knoxville and those two things have been difficult this year especially. so we apologize that we were unable to fulfill our promise to have a Pride Fest for you this year. we hope that you will go to Chattanooga Pride on Sunday and celebrate with them so there is still some celebration. and we will work very hard to not have this issue next year and we apologize for disappointing anyone. we spent most of yesterday calling vendors, performers, sponsors and different agencies throughout the city that work to make Pride Fest happen to let them know and give some time so our vendors didn't spend too much money on product they wouldn't be able to sell this weekend. Now that everyone has been contacted, we wanted to let the general public know as well and our community. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me, john@knoxpride.com and I'm happy to discuss further with you.

🌾 Happy Mabon! 🍂
As the autumn equinox arrives, we celebrate balance, abundance, and gratitude. Mabon marks the turning of the seasons, a time to reflect on the harvests—both literal and symbolic—that we’ve gathered this year.

At Visual Noise Interpreting, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve and grow alongside our community. As the days shorten and the nights grow longer, let’s all take a moment to appreciate the gifts we’ve received and prepare for the season of rest and renewal ahead.

Wishing you all a bountiful Mabon full of peace, reflection, and joy. 🍁🌙

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, we stand together to honor every life touched by su***de and to remind each other: you are not alone. This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Su***de,” invites us all to challenge the stigma, silence, and shame that too often surround mental health. It’s a call to speak more openly, listen more deeply, and lead with compassion.

By sharing our stories, supporting one another, and speaking honestly about su***de, we create space for healing—and for hope.

Here are some reminders to carry with you—not just today, but every day:

💙 You are not alone—where there is help, there is hope.
No matter how dark things may seem, support is always within reach.

💚 Seeking support is a sign of strength.
It takes courage to reach out. Asking for help is brave—not a weakness.

❤️ Connection is powerful.
One conversation, one kind gesture, one moment of being heard—it can change everything.

🧡 Living is courage.
Showing up each day, even when it's hard, is a quiet act of bravery.

💜 Healing is a journey, not a destination.
There’s no “right” timeline. Go at your own pace—you are doing your best.

💛 Forgiveness starts with yourself.
Let go of what you carry. You are worthy of healing, peace, and a fresh start.

🤎 Empathy opens hearts.
Your compassion might be the lifeline someone needs today.

If you’re struggling, you can videophone, call, text, or chat online with the 988 Lifeline. We’re available 24/7 and confidential. There are caring counselors available to listen and support you without judgment. https://988lifeline.org/deaf-hard-of-hearing-hearing-loss/

Together, let’s make the world a place where empathy thrives and every person knows they are valued.

🤝 Tips for Interacting with Deaf People 🤝
Creating inclusive and respectful communication is key! Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Get Their Attention: Wave, tap their shoulder, or flicker the lights to get someone’s attention before speaking.
- Face Them: Maintain eye contact and face the person directly. This helps with lip-reading and ensures clear communication.
- Speak Clearly: If using your voice, speak at a normal pace. Don’t exaggerate your lip movements or shout.
- Use Visual Cues: Gestures, facial expressions, and body language are essential. If you know ASL, use it!
- Be Patient: Communication may take time, so be patient and understanding. Never assume someone can’t communicate just because they’re Deaf.
- Ask How They Prefer to Communicate: Everyone is different. Some may prefer sign language, writing, or speech.
