Shifting Stones is one of the newer games we’ve been playing lately, and we are loving it! It’s very unique and different… kind like us!

It’s a pattern-building strategy game that challenges players to think ahead, stay flexible, and adapt as the board constantly changes. Everyone works from the same grid, but each turn brings new decisions like shifting tiles, flipping stones, and planning for what’s next!

Let me know if you try this game!

Next week, I’m excited to be speaking at the 40th annual North Carolina Council for Exceptional Children Conference. In my workshop, I dive into EDGE and what we do around here and how we do it.

I’m looking forward to connecting with other professionals and families who are committed to empowering communication skills of neurodivergent individuals. Here’s to a weekend of collaboration, insight, and shared learning in the beautiful state of North Carolina!

Bullsh*t!
Disclosure #1: I work mostly with young adults ages 21+
Discolose #2: We often refer to this cardgame as “BS”
Fact: This simple card game provides some of the most fun and social interactions than many of my expensive board games do!
My Recommendation: Grab a deck of cards and play it today! You can thank me later!

I am SO excited about these workshops! I’m LOVING bringing together parents and professionals and really diving deep into one topic at a time. The workshops are laid out into 3 sections:
(1) understanding
(2) building the skills
(3) applying the skill in real life

The conversations and questions that are coming out of them are so incredibly good, and honestly, it’s quickly becoming my favorite part! I’m getting more and more excited about these each week!

If you’re curious and want to learn more, call or text me and we’ll see if they’re a good fit for you! I’ve designed them in a way that you can join in anytime!

Have you been seeing a new face around the office the past few weeks? I’m excited to introduce you to Elise! Elise is a proud UT Grad with a degree in Health and Human Sciences. She intends to return to school to pursue a master's degree but in the meantime… she’s going to work with me!

So, Elise will be joining in on Groups while she’s completing her Virtual Workshop Trainings and soon she’ll be able to run Groups for me if ever I’m out of town!

Welcome to the EDGE family, Elise!

Social Discernment is one of the Key Concepts we focus on in EDGE because when your intention and your message don’t align, misunderstandings happen. Ya know the old saying “it’s not what you say but how you say it”... well - it’s true. Having discernment in social situations is a crucial skill and it’s one we work on almost every day in Groups.

When Group participants develop social discernment, they are learning to pause, read the room and make intentional choices about their message.
One of my favorite analogies when we talk about Social Discernment is: Sometimes a message just needs a little adjustment - change the volume or the song - but you don’t have to change the entire album.

One of the things I always ask participants to do here at EDGE is sit in the uncomfortable. Not rush past it. Not avoid it. Not “fix” it immediately. That uncomfortable space is where skills form, and confidence slowly takes root.
I believe that my role isn’t to remove discomfort—it’s to help participants learn to recognize it, develop skills to work through it and eventually - to carry those skills and the new found resilience into the real world. When participants learn they can stay present in challenging moments, they gain access to more independence, connection, and choice. One of my favorite quotes is “The place of discomfort is where growth lives.” I don’t know who said it… but I love it!

✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨

I love hearing how Not Autistic Enough resonates with families.

As a parent of an adult on the autism spectrum, my lifelong goal has always been to empower my son to be as independent, productive, and happy as possible. “Not Autistic Enough” is an excellent guide to assisting me with that goal. Micki has clearly dedicated her life to figuring out what works to facilitate the growth and development of social skills. Her E.D.G.E. approach is critical because it bridges the enormous gap between understanding social skills and applying them. If you know someone who struggles with social skills, I highly recommend this book and strongly encourage you to implement her methodology.”

If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, grab a copy here and let me know what it means to you! https://www.amazon.com/Not-Autistic-Enough-Striving-Thrive/dp/B0F9VLG8H5

At EDGE, our mission is simple but intentional.

The mission of EDGE is to empower neurodivergent teens and young adults to navigate the social world with confidence and authenticity by providing structured, practical social supports that bridge the gap between knowing social rules in theory and using social skills in their real lives.

If someone in your life might be a good fit for groups or wants to learn more, I’m always happy to connect!
