Today’s biggest mistake wasn’t technique. It was mental performance .

Too many athletes are chasing the pin, chasing the big move, chasing the highlight… without first winning POSITION 🧠

Position before pin
Position before points
Position before everything

This is MY triple ‘P’ system ™️

Especially in freestyle and Greco, it’s simple. If your position breaks, your match breaks.

I saw it in the first 30 seconds and again in the last 30 seconds. Lack of aggression, lack of confidence, and most importantly poor positioning when it mattered most.

At Coach Coco Performance, we don’t just teach wrestling.

We build wrestlers through a complete system:

• Match management (what to do when the score and pressure is real)
• Mental performance training (confidence under chaos)
• Film breakdown (seeing what actually happened vs what you felt)
• Strength, nutrition, and support systems when needed

If you’re a jiu jitsu athlete watching this, you already know it.

Position before submission 🔒

Same principle. Different rules.

Don’t give up position trying to score. Don’t reach for points before you’ve earned control.

Especially in freestyle, exposure comes fast and mistakes cost even faster ⚡

Push outs, shots, scrambles… it all comes back to one thing. Get to your feet, win your position, then attack.

Positioning wins.

That’s the system.

Match Day Checklist 📝⚔️

This is where all the work gets tested.

Before you step on the mat, lock in these non-negotiables:

✔️ Warm up with purpose — not panic, minimal static
✔️ Fuel your body — no skipping meals, no guessing
✔️ Hydrate early — don’t try to catch up last minute
✔️ Visualize your first exchange — see it before it happens
✔️ Control your breathing — calm is a weapon 5x5
✔️ Stick to YOUR style — not the moment’s chaos

Remember: you don’t rise to the occasion… you fall to your preparation.

WIN mindset = What’s Important Now.

No extra thoughts. No distractions. Just ex*****on.

Let’s go get it. 💪🔥

Wrestling Thursdays at Wind Jiu-Jitsu
7:45 PM

Extra training for wrestlers in the Massapequa area.

This is a hands on development room focused on building complete athletes. We use cone based drills for speed and agility, technical drilling for mat awareness, and live situations that directly transfer to competition.

We also train mindset every session so athletes are prepared for upcoming Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling tournaments, not just physically but mentally and tactically.

This is a smaller training environment which allows for more individual attention and direct coaching from black belt instructors and former college wrestlers who understand what it takes to compete at a high level.

For parents and coaches, this is the kind of supplemental work that helps athletes separate during the season, especially when consistency and detail matter most.

We will also have the cauliflower wipes available if needed.

If you are looking for a serious environment to add extra work, come through.

🧠 MMA Mindset Secrets – Peak Like a Champion 🏆

Jiri Prochazka shows us that peak performance isn’t just physical it’s mental. 🥋

Most athletes either overtrain or skip mindfulness, but the real edge? Deep rest, presence, and embracing the process.

Jiri Prochazka shows us that peak performance isn’t just physical—it’s mental. 🥋
Most athletes either overtrain or skip mindfulness, but the real edge? Deep rest, presence, and embracing the process.

⚡ Key Principles:
• Recharge before intense competition 🔋
• Relax, breathe, and stay loose 😌
• Focus on the moment—What’s Important Now 🎯
• Pressure = privilege 💪
• Enjoy the process, even when it’s tough 🙌

Every fight, match, or meet is a collection of moments. Be where your feet are. Own it.

Slow feet don’t eat 👣

One of my favorite reaction drills I picked up working with Spencer (spencer__berge) at Wind Jiu Jitsu

Athlete is chopping their feet the entire time
I tap one foot they down block left or right
I tap both it’s a sprawl
Then I lift the leg to open up a live shot

Now we’re training shot reshot and reaction in real time

This isn’t just a drill
It gets the nervous system firing and prepares you for live situations

Low impact high value
Perfect for a warm up or to finish a session

If you cannot move your feet
You cannot defend a takedown

Simple as that

🔥 Going to War at the Shore this weekend? Your edge is not just physical it’s mental.

Forget the brackets. Focus on your mat and bout number. Win the first contact. Recover or you’re done.

The difference this weekend? How you train your mind.

Rest in peace, Coach J Robinson.

When you had that shirt, you didn’t just wear a piece of clothing you carried a standard. Respect wasn’t given, it was earned, and coaches like this made sure of that.

He believed in conditioning as a weapon and in total immersion pushing athletes fully, physically and mentally. He learned from one of the best, Dan Gable, and brought that same intensity to every practice, match, and camp.

His camps weren’t just wrestling they were what we call emotional events, rites of passage that challenged you, built culture, and created peak experiences you’d never forget. That’s how he shaped champions, on the mat and in life.

We all have that coach, camp, or teacher who pushed us, challenged us, and left a mark on our mindset. J Robinson was that coach for so many, and his legacy will live on in every athlete who had the honor to learn from him. 🙏

💥 Seeds and Rankings Don’t Win Matches 💥

This past weekend at the NCAA tournament, athletes like:
🏆 Carter Nogle .nogle138 | Air Force – Placed 5th, Ranked 28
🏆 Gabe Arnold .aabe | Iowa – Placed 7th, Ranked 29 (Overcame mental health challenges and moved up two weight classes to compete at this level)
🏆 Wyatt Henson | Lock Haven – Placed 8th, Ranked 27

…proved that numbers don’t define you. What matters is what you can control your mindset, your preparation, your focus under pressure. 🧠⚡

At Coach Coco Wrestling, we help wrestlers:
✅ Stop letting seeds or rankings dictate their performance
✅ Stay confident, aggressive, and locked in no matter the bracket
✅ Use mental training to outperform expectations every time

Don’t let outside factors control your season. DM us ‘Mental’ to train your mind like a champion and dominate your matches on and off the mat.

1 Way to Compete Free 🤼 | March Matness Mental Monday Edition

This past weekend showed exactly what an elite mindset looks like. True freshmen from Oklahoma State stepped on the biggest stage and wrestled without fear. Redshirt freshman Aiden Valencia went into overtime and beat a two-time NCAA champ. Not luck. Not just talent. Mindset.

Focus on what you can control. Your position. Your effort. Your ex*****on. Forget the scoreboard. Forget what other people think. Compete free. That is when you become dangerous.

Confidence is built in practice. Rep by rep. Control what you can and release what you cant.

If you feel nervous before matches or tighten up under pressure DM me MINDSET and I will show you how to train your mind to dominate the mat

3 true freshmen. NCAA Champions.

Let that sink in.

No fear.
No expectations.
Nothing to lose.

That’s dangerous.

While everyone else is protecting rankings…
They’re chasing points. Attacking. Letting it fly.

That’s the edge.

The underdog doesn’t hesitate.
The underdog doesn’t overthink.
The underdog competes FREE.

And that’s exactly what we teach.

Because the truth is 👇
Confidence isn’t built on the big stage…
It’s built in preparation, habits, and mindset.

By the time the lights come on—
It’s already decided.

🎯 Stop wrestling not to lose.
Start wrestling to impose your will.

If you want to build that mindset…

We’ve got 2 spots open for 1:1 mental performance coaching
DM “MINDSET” to lock in.
