I became a loyal customer when a manager used rock, paper, scissors.
And it ended up being a masterclass in value and community.
I went to 2 UPS Stores within 5 minutes of each other, and the difference was unreal!
Store #1:
Employees were sitting around, disengaged, uninterested, and repeating “We’re a franchise, we don’t take Amazon returns.”
No solutions. No energy. No care.
I couldn’t leave fast enough.
Store #2:
Packed. Busy. A line out the door.
But the team was smiling, friendly, helpful, and genuinely enjoying themselves.
You could feel the difference the moment you walked in.
The best part happened when they were closing for the night.
The manager had the team play rock, paper, scissors to pick who did the closing tasks.
Everyone laughed. They joked. They worked together like a real community.
That moment said everything:
When employees feel valued, customers feel it.
When people are treated well, they treat customers well.
