If meditation has ever made you feel like you “failed at relaxing,” you’re not alone.
I had Ethan Reisboard, CHT on Adulting With Autism, and we got into what so many autistic/ADHD folks and chronically-stressed humans are dealing with every day: living in fight/flight (sometimes as anxiety… sometimes as chronic pain).
Ethan explained it in a way that finally clicked:
Fight/flight = sympathetic nervous system
Hypnosis/relaxation = parasympathetic nervous system
So for people who are stuck on high-alert, hypnotherapy can be the first time their body gets a real “off switch” moment.
We also talked about:
“I can’t be hypnotized” (usually fear + misconceptions from stage hypnosis)
How to tell if a hypnotherapist is legit (ask about training, supervision, internship—do your research)
Consent + safety: it’s a team effort, not mind control
Getting started without spending money: breathwork + guided meditation + shifting expectations
If you can access even a few seconds of calm, your body learns: “safe is possible.”
Discussion question:
When you finally feel calm for a moment… what usually pulls you back into survival mode?
