Important and urgent update from Samson Assuta Hospital!!

The hospital has admitted over 100 wounded terror victims with varying degrees of injury, including: IDF soldiers, police officers and residents of the south and center of Israel.

The hospital is located only 25 kilometers from the border with Gaza.

Unfortunately, we are only at the beginning of a difficult and challenging period for all the residents of Israel and we anticipate very complex days ahead.

Following the Ministry of Health's directive, no hospital personnel are permitted to leave the country or take leave. Many staff members in the IDF reserve, have been drafted.

Our hearts are with the families of the many injured and those who have sadly fallen. We are grateful to our dedicated staff who are saving lives and protecting our country.

Congratulations to these residents of Ashdod, who recently welcomed their daughter into the world. The joy was twofold, as immediately after the birth, the man requested the mother's hand in marriage. She said, "Yes!"

"So it turns out that we can make this day even happier than it already is. We have the privilege of being the parents of our adorable and perfect baby girl, and we also have the privilege of officially and institutionally becoming one for each other," the parents said. "This is a day of great joy."

About a month ago, a resident of Ashdod arrived at the hospital due to severe eye pain and serious vision blurriness in his left eye. He said the pain started about two weeks before his visit but had become unbearable in recent days.

During the eye examination, a significant decrease in vision in the left eye was diagnosed, along with redness, swelling of the eyelids, noticeable opacity, and a lesion on the cornea, indicating an advanced and severe inflammatory and infectious process. The clinical picture in the patient's eye suggested a severe corneal inflammation that could be attributed to an acanthamoeba infection. This single-celled parasite can lead to painful eye infections and even vision loss.

After discovering that the patient regularly used contact lenses, the doctors decided to examine the contact lens storage to determine if it was the source of the infection. After conducting tests, it was clarified that the contact lens storage was the source of the contamination, and it had likely not been cleaned adequately for an extended period.

Based on these findings, the patient received extensive treatment, including antibiotics, antifungal treatment, and specific therapy for the acanthamoeba. This is a very unique treatment that requires frequent and long-term administration. Therefore, the patient has been hospitalized since the diagnosis, and additional weeks of hospitalization were planned, followed by months of home treatment.

"I cannot emphasize enough the importance of lens hygiene, cleaning solutions, and their storage containers," Dr. Segev said. "Avoid exposing contact lenses to water sources, and if there is any eye irritation or even mild discomfort, do not wear contact lenses and immediately seek an eye examination, as contact lenses can cause very severe infections that endanger vision and the eye itself."

Yesterday, the world observed International Su***de Prevention Day. A recent Israeli report shed light on a sobering statistic: among young adults, the incidence of psychiatric hospitalization is a staggering 16 times greater than that of the general population.

Here are some additional findings from the report:

•In Israel, 29% of all suicides were among individuals with a history of psychiatric hospitalization, with disparities between genders: 35% among women and 27% among men.
•Among the age group of 18-24, 26% of suicides were linked to a history of psychiatric hospitalization.
•For those aged 25-44, this figure rose to 38%.
•In the 45-64 age bracket, 33% of suicides were associated with prior psychiatric hospitalization.
Among individuals aged 65 and above, 17% had a history of psychiatric hospitalization leading up to their suicides.
