Many people think carbohydrates cause diabetes but studies have shown that in fact, it is excess fat inside cells that cause insulin resistance. π€π°
βοΈ How does the fat collect inside the cell? Mainly due to diet (excess calories, refined carbs, high-fat diets, processed foods, advanced glycation product, inflammation which drive mitochondrial dysfunction, toxins, etc) that cause insulin resistance.ππ§

π Carbs are not the enemy and avoiding carbs will not reverse insulin resistance.π

Normally, if our blood sugar is high (after a meal), insulin is released from our pancreas. Insulin is the key that unlocks the doors on the cells and allows sugar to enter. The blood sugar then normalizes because sugar has gone into the cells where they can now produce energy. Everyone is happy. πβ¨

π Insulin resistance occurs when insulin can no longer open that lock to drive sugar from the blood into cells - why? Because that lock is hindered by the fat that has collected inside the cells. (Causes mentioned above but a big factor is processed meats and excess animal proteins). π§π

In the past, I had mentioned how low carb can help with type 2 diabetes. However, I realize now that low carb only goes around the actual problem and does not deal with the root cause of the issue.
The roles of fat and protein played in insulin resistance (even though the data showing this goes way back) tends to get missed. π§β¨οΈ
