If you’re a mini owner, your instinct might be to brush snow off your horse’s back - but pause! That fluffy layer of snow is actually a good sign.
When snow stays frozen on a miniature horse’s coat, it means their thick winter hair is doing its job. The dense fur traps body heat close to the skin, preventing warmth from escaping and keeping them dry and comfortable - essentially creating a natural insulating blanket.
Shifa and Chiron love winter weather and spend as much time outside in the snow as possible. This is totally normal for miniature horses, who are genetically the same as their Shetland Pony “cousins”- hardy little equines built to thrive in sub-arctic conditions.
So next time you see a snow-covered mini… you’re looking at nature’s winter coat in action 🐎 ❄️ 🐎
