Taking the first step towards therapy for your child can feel overwhelming. But know this: a comprehensive evaluation is the key to unlocking their full potential.
An occupational therapy (OT) or physical therapy (PT) evaluation is the foundation of the therapy process. It's a collaborative effort between you, the therapist, and potentially your child's teacher or caregiver, all working together to understand your child's unique needs.
What to Expect During an Evaluation with us:
Duration: The evaluation typically takes 75-90 minutes.
Assessment Techniques: A combination of standardized tests and clinical observations will be used to assess various areas:
🏷️Sensory processing
🏷️Sensory motor skills
🏷️Self-help skills
🏷️Social-emotional skills
🏷️Gross motor skills
🏷️Fine motor skills
Some common standardized tests will vary based on your child's needs.
Observation Settings: Clinical observations may be conducted in the clinic, at home, or even at school to get a well-rounded picture of your child's functioning in different environments.
Following the Evaluation, a comprehensive report will be provided, summarizing standardized test scores, clinical observations, and input from you, your child's caregiver(s), and teacher(s) if applicable.
And then in a separate meeting (typically 45 minutes), the therapist will discuss personalized goals, treatment plans, and recommendations specifically tailored to your child's needs.
This initial evaluation is the springboard for your child's therapy journey. By working together as a team, we can create a roadmap for success and help your child reach their full potential.
