"WE THE PEOPLE, in order to create a more perfect historical record, establish fairness in media coverage, insure a balanced narrative, provide for our children's education, promote the appropriate vocabulary for dialogue, secure for this president a place of honor in public consciousness for ourselves, our posterity and the greater world, do compile and present The Obama Legacy We-Write, for one and all." What's a "We-Write?"
"A pre-emptive, crowd-funded, people-produced history book!"
pre-empt: to prevent an anticipated occurrence or to take action before another person is able to; to preclude, to forestall
A "WE-Write" is simply history written by we the people. More often than not, history is a "RE-Write" crafted by those with their own agenda. Our agenda is fairness and accuracy. In a few months, something significant will be happening. American president, Barack Hussein Obama, will be ending his historic two-terms in office as 44th president of the United States of America. Now, it would be great if Americans lived in a society where such a trivial matter as the color of his skin did not affect how he will be remembered, but unfortunately that society does not yet exist. If you've lived in or observed America for any length of time, you've seen how it happens time and again. Genocide and slavery are sanitized for the textbooks. War criminals are pardoned and their crimes overlooked and forgotten by the media. Hollywood fictionalizes history and that fiction becomes real in the public's collective mind. At the same time, particularly when it comes to those same cinematic portrayals of men and women of color (Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr.,), noble individuals of real historical consequence are recast as supporting characters in their own stories--playing second to the humanized white leads who become their saviors and redeemers. We must not allow that to happen this time. Don't allow pundits, politicians and producers to determine how you and your children remember his presidency. The Obama Legacy We-Write Project is a way for we the people--all of us--to take action to pre-empt the RE-Write of history that is likely to occur. It's a very simple idea: to document and present in a fair, accurate and permanent way the accomplishments of this president, and to give people the information, facts, images and words to pre-empt the media, Hollywood and history textbook RE-Writes that are likely to occur over time. We researched the public record; we compiled the major and the minor; we polled and surveyed the people, average folks of all backgrounds--not media producers, film directors, newspaper editors, talk show hosts or politicians--to get a list of the things we should include. We distilled it to 300! Those average folks are now funding the publication of the achievements of a man who is, and many arguably, the greatest American president this country and the world have ever seen. Let's create and direct that conversation. Let's control the narrative. Everything on the list is a verifiable, documented achievement. However, eight years is a long time, and with media coverage that jumps from one breaking news story to the next, it's easy for all of us to forget some of the milestones that made this presidency arguably, one of the most impactful in American history. This unique volume captures them all! We've compiled, presented and thus preserved a record of the over 300 acts, laws, accomplishment, milestones, that happened on Barack Obama's "watch:"
• "The Ground Game" and era of Social Media campaigning
• Lilly Ledbetter Act
• Cuba relations
• Osama Bin Laden (How come we don't hear more about this?)
• Universal Health Care
• Female Supreme Court Justices
• Gay marriage rights
• Triumph over the "one-term obstructionists"
• The Nobel Peace Prize
• The economy
• Unemployment rate
• Troop withdrawal
We also include the "not so great" (i.e. drone killings, deportations and other ways this administration fell short of ideals; remember, we the people demand accuracy and truth.) We present them all and more, with citations, photos and commentary and more, in an easy-to-read, bold, color keepsake (paperback or hardcover) that will last for years! Now, in order for it to have the impact we'd like it to have, it's important that we get to a specific milestone in the publication and marketing of this book BEFORE the election and before the new president takes office. To help make this happen, your contribution, pre-publication order, word-of-mouth promotion and and any way you can support this project will help us succeed.
