In 2015, Chase lost his little brother, Shane, who was cared for at CHOP, and our bereavement program helped the family during this difficult time.

"CHOP’s bereavement team taught me how to recognize, share, and manage the emotions I didn’t have words for. In art therapy, I used Polaroids, drawings, and stories to show how I was feeling."

When applying to colleges in the last year, Chase, a high school senior and a member of Abington Senior High School’s state championship soccer team, chose to center his personal essay on the grief that has shaped him and the sport of soccer that helped him navigate it.
