Congratulations to ADRC Associate Director Dr. Sam Gandy! 🎉

Dr. Gandy was honored at the CaringKind Walk for his work as an internationally renowned Alzheimer’s researcher and tireless advocate. Dr. Gandy shared a powerful message:

“Science and medicine are under attack like never before. Research projects and clinical trials are being disrupted when funding committed by NIH and Congress is rescinded. Layoffs and furloughs are happening at all levels, from NIH to 1470 Madison. I urge you to write your representatives and let them hear that this is not what you elected them to do. We need to pull together again and eradicate Alzheimer’s disease in our lifetime. 118 years of Alzheimer’s is enough.”

👏 We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Gandy’s leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to ending Alzheimer’s disease.

New ADRC study! Target Tau is a Phase 2 to determine whether BMS-986446 (study drug) can help delay clinical decline in participants with MCI/early AD. It is a monoclonal antibody that binds to tau and prevents it from being absorbed by cells. Tau accumulation plays a critical role in disease progression. Participants are randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups: two different doses of BMS-986446 or placebo administered via IV. Participants will be compensated for their time. To learn more, contact study coordinator Aimee Eicher (332) 243-7041 or aimee.eicher@mssm.edu. PI: Laili Soleimani, MD. GCO #: 24-00114.

We are thrilled to be collaborating in an immersive theater piece ("Mercedes Part 1") being performed at the Next Wave Festival at BAM from 12/3-8 by the well-known theater artist Modesto Flako Jimenez. The ADRC's role at the performances—talking about caregiver support and research in Spanish and English—will be one of several aspects of the work that also includes coping with dementia through art and dementia education. Pictured here are ADRC team members Dr. Mari Umpierre and Isabel Bate.
