‼️Fun Friday Facts about Chiropractic‼️
https://www.spineandsports.com

The chiropractic doctors at Spine and Sports Medicine know that a healthy body is achieved through a healthy spine, nervous system, muscles and joints.

Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) go through a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, lab and clinical internships during their 4-year doctoral graduate school program. Perspective: If you combine all that time, that’s 175 days straight. Oof.

It is estimated that Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) treat over 35 million Americans (adults and children) annually.
There are about 95,000 doctors of chiropractic in active practice across the globe, and about 10,000 students are currently enrolled in chiropractic education programs in the United States alone.

32 National Football League teams utilize chiropractic! All 32 teams have their own chiropractor to boost performance, maintain wellness and treat musculoskeletal strain and injury.

Unbeknownst to quite a few, infants can benefit greatly from chiropractic care. It makes sense—birth can be pretty hard on a little body! The adjustment is adapted to suit their needs and is perfectly safe.

Each day, over one million adjustments take place across the globe. That’s a whole lot of relief!

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is the use of physical methods, versus drugs or surgery, to treat an injury, a pain syndrome, various diseases, deformity, or various physical dysfunctions.

These physical methods include a variety of highly specialized exercises, both high tech, high touch, and much more. Many medical conditions cannot be instantaneously cured by surgery, and medication merely provides temporary relief.

Patients can reap the benefits of physical therapy for years, live a more active and pain free life, move better, faster, and without pain, as it not only heals and mitigates pain, it teaches healthy habits that can help to avoid pain and other problems in the future.

Physical therapy is designed to treat injuries that cause pain and/or dysfunction anywhere in the body, but predominately in the spine, back, and joints–essentially from head to toe.

Lyme Disease
First recognized by the medical profession in 1975, Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by deer ticks. Medical researchers discovered an unusually number of children in Lyme, Connecticut – and neighboring communities – suffering from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. These children lived in or near wooded areas habited by ticks. Most of the symptoms began in the summer months – the height of the deer tick season. Ordinary wood ticks and dog ticks do not carry the bacterium.

Fibromyalgia Syndrome is a condition affecting the muscles and soft tissue. The syndrome causes widespread muscle and joint pain, leading to fatigue. Fibromyalgia is one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions diagnosed. The disease is frequently misdiagnosed and misunderstood. Fibromyalgia leads to depression and social isolation. Women are more prone to suffer from fibromyalgia than men.

https://www.spineandsports.com

Researchers are of the opinion that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the manner in which the brain processes pain signals.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia typically begin after:

A physical trauma
A surgery
An infection
A significant psychological stress
Symptoms can also accumulate gradually over time with no triggering event.

Fibromyalgia Symptoms

A syndrome is a set of symptoms. As these symptoms exist together, they imply the presence of a specific disease – or – a greater chance of developing the disease.

These are the common symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome:

Headaches
TMJ
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Anxiety
Depression
Decreased pain threshold
Decreased threshold of tender points
Incapacitating fatigue
Widespread pain
At Spine and Sports Medicine, you will learn which fibromyalgia treatments work best with a plan designed for your specific needs.

Treatments targeting muscle pain
Treatments targeting trigger points
Treatment helping with sleep problems
Treatment helping with depression
Treatments helping to manage stress and anxiety

TMJ

TMJ – temporomandibular joint – is a hinge connecting the jaw to the temporal bones of the skull. The temporal bones are in front of each ear. This joint – TMJ – moves the jaw up and down – as well as from side to side – for talking, chewing, yawning, and other facial expression.

TMD – temporomandibular disorders – are problems with the jaw and the face muscles controlling the TMJ.

TMD is frequently referred to as TMJ
TMJ is the joint
TMD is the problem
When the TMJ fails to facilitate motion of the jaw, the ligaments holding the temporal bones are damaged. This causes disorders resulting in the dislocation of the cartilage disc in between the temporal bones – the TMD – resulting in an uneven movement of the lower jaw and pain of the joint – the TMJ.

Spinal Tumors

A spinal tumor is a growth developing within the spinal canal – or – within the bones of the spine. A spinal tumor may be cancerous or noncancerous. Tumors affecting the bones of the spine – the vertebrae – are known as vertebral tumors. Tumors forming within the spinal cord itself are called spinal cord tumors.

Spinal tumors can develop along the three specific areas of the spine:

Cervical Spine – the first 7 vertebrae comprising the neck – beginning at the base of the skull
Thoracic Spine – the next 12 vertebrae after C7 – comprising the mid-back region
Lumbar Spine – the final 5 vertebrae – comprising the lower back region
The severity, progression, and symptoms of these spinal tumors vary greatly. Even benign tumor have significant, adverse symptoms – depending on size and location of the tumor. Spinal tumors can develop inside or along the spinal cord.

On the vertebra bones
In the spinal canal
Within the cerebrospinal fluid
Outside of the dura – the membrane containing the spinal cord nerves – epidural tumors
Inside of the dura – intradural tumors
Intradural Tumors are the most common type of spinal tumors causing neurological abnormalities slowly progressing over months to years.

There are two main types of tumors adversely affecting the health of the spinal cord.

Intramedullary Tumors
Intramedullary tumors begin in the cells within the spinal cord itself, such as astrocytomas or ependymomas.

Extramedullary Tumors
Extramedullary tumors develop within the supporting network of cells around the spinal cord. Although extramedullary tumors don't begin within the spinal cord itself – these types of tumors may affect spinal cord function by causing spinal cord compression and other problems. Examples of extramedullary tumors adversely affecting the spinal cord include:

Schwannomas
Meningiomas
Neurofibromas

Experienced Neck Doctor NYC

The neck is the most flexible region of the spine, containing muscles, bones, nerves, arteries, and veins, as well as many ligaments and other supporting structures.

https://www.spineandsports.com
Link In Bio ⬆️⬆️⬆️

Neck pain can begin in any of these structures or may come from other regions near the neck, like the shoulder, jaw, head, and upper arms. Injury or stress can cause damage to the bones and discs in the neck, causing pain, discomfort, numbness and/or tingling sensations.

The neck also has many muscles and connective tissues that can be adversely affected by stretching, spasm, or strain. Sudden injury from sports or accidents, herniated discs, blood vessel damage and pressure on the spinal cord are conditions that require medical attention, while less serious causes like stress, poor posture, natural aging, and too much exercise can also produce neck pain.

Plantar Fasciitis
What Works?

https://www.spineandsports.com
Link In Bio ⬆️⬆️⬆️

Plantar Fasciitis is a tendonitis causal of pain to the heel of your foot. The band of fibrous tissue extending along the bottom of the foot – from the heel bone to the toes – is composed of the arch. This band of fibrous tissue comprising the arch of the foot is known as fascia. When this fascia becomes extremely inflamed due to over exertion, over use, and over stretching, the condition of plantar fasciitis results.

Repeated Stress and Exertion

Plantar Fasciitis occurs through repeated stress and impact exerted on the legs and feet, such as long distance running. Running moderate distances as a part of one’s exercise lifestyle is a normal, active, and healthy routine. The human body is very durable and adept at compensating for reasonable exertion. However, those long distance runners who continually run downhill and/or on uneven surfaces are especially vulnerable. Excessive long distance running is very taxing on the body and subjects the feet to a great deal of unnecessary wear and tear. At some point in time, the body’s durability will pique with continuous abuse and become unable to regenerate.

Other Contributors to Plantar Fasciitis

The following factors are additional contributors leading to the development of Plantar Fasciitis.

Having an abnormally high arch
Having an abnormally low arch – flat feet
Wearing improper footwear not supportive of the arch
Achilles Tendonitis
Flat and high arched feet disturb the normal functioning of the foot and are causally detrimental to the fasciae. The feet move automatically and compensate for a high arch or flat feet through excessive pronation. Excessive pronation of the foot occurs when your body weight remains fixed on the inner edge of the sole – the feet roll inward.

The shoulder is the most movable joint in the body and the potential causes of shoulder pain are multiple. Most shoulder problems involve the soft tissues — muscles, tendons, and ligaments — that hold the bones of the shoulder in place, and include swelling, inflammation, and the splitting or tearing of tendons. Degenerative conditions, such as tendonitis, bursitis or arthritis, as well as the natural aging process, can also cause shoulder pain. Because the shoulder has such a wide range of motion, problems can be Shoulder_Pain.jpgworsened by sports like baseball and tennis, in which the shoulder is extensively used. Other shoulder conditions include shoulder dislocation, shoulder separation, fracture, and "frozen shoulder syndrome," which occurs when the shoulder is immobilized due to a prior injury.

FYI:
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, visits to orthopaedic specialists for shoulder pain have been rising since 1998 and in 2005 over 13 million patients sought medical care for shoulder pain, of which only 34% were related to injury.

* Patient Story
"At first, I couldn't sleep. The pain kept waking me at night. Then I began to notice how difficult it was to do simple things like opening the door to my apartment, carrying a bag of groceries, or even brushing my hair."
