This Earth Month, Teatown Lake Reservation - in partnership with Sing Sing Prison Museum, Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison, and DOCCS- is bringing the restorative power of gardening to Westchester correctional facilities as part of the new Plants for Prisons initiative. 🪴

Incarcerated individuals will have the opportunity to gain valuable horticultural skills while experiencing personal growth. Community members can support the initiative by donating through the Sing Sing Prison Museum’s website now through April 25. 🌷

The evening will honor 31 years of BIV’s mission to strengthen communities in need through arts, education and outreach programming. This year’s honorees will include Tom Kirdahy, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Phylicia Rashad, with special guests including Kara Young, Donna Murphy, Busy Philips, Aisha Jackson, Manny Houston, and more. 🎭🎶

The Grammy-winning Experiential Orchestra returns to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine to present “Music in the Crypt,” inviting audiences to listen deeply to music inspired by the unique acoustics and atmosphere of the Cathedral’s Crypt. Led by Music Director James Blachly, the program evokes shadows, intimacy, and reverence, reflecting EXO’s origins more than 20 years ago, when music was first made in this very space. 
 
Three performances will take place on April 10 at 7:30pm and April 11 at 5pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are $100 can be purchased at the link in our bio.

Ten years after receiving a heart transplant facilitated by LiveOnNY, 61-year-old Long Island resident Ken Abbott is biking across the U.S. to raise awareness for the life-saving impact of organ donation. Holy Week has officially begun! Yesterday, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC kicked off the most sacred week in the Christian liturgical calendar with a beautiful Palm Sunday service and procession. Services will continue throughout the week and culminate with the annual Easter Sunday Service on April 5 at 10:30am, available both in person and via livestream. 🌿⛪️

Meet NY1’s New Yorker of the Week, Tatjana Bourgeois! A retired social worker with over 3 decades of experience, Tatjana has always known she was destined to a life of serving others. After retirement, she continues that life of service as a volunteer at Cathedral Community Cares, an outreach program through the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, where distributes meals and clothing and offers social work services to the local community. 👏🌟
