19th-century vis-à-vis conversation chair from France. Two back-to-back seats angled face to face so people could talk close up without turning their bodies or messing up their posture. Victorian era favorite for fancy parlors. Let bourgeois folks chat, flirt a little, all while staying proper on those stiff sofas. Solid wood frame, deep cushions, carved details. Total parlor game-changer back then. Still looks sharp today.

Root Cellar is Fully Stocked! 🥫🥔💪
I’m standing here grinning from ear to ear because this year’s root cellar is next-level compared to last year!
We made some big improvements — added solid earthquake protection along the front of every shelf so all those precious jars stay safe no matter what. The shelves are now loaded with way more jars than ever before. I seriously canned more this year than I have in my entire life! Rows and rows of beautiful preserved food: green beans, beets, salsa, pickles, pie fillings, sauces, and so much more.
Down below, the potato and root crop crates are overflowing — potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, and apples all tucked away for the winter months.
Looking at everything lined up so neatly makes me feel incredibly proud and prepared. There’s something so satisfying about walking down here and seeing the results of months of hard work, early mornings in the garden, and long evenings at the canner.
This root cellar isn’t just storage — it’s peace of mind, self-reliance, and a whole lot of love poured into every jar.
Who else has their pantry or root cellar fully stocked for the season? I’d love to hear what you’re most proud of preserving this year!
Feeling mighty proud and grateful tonight 💪❤️

I never in a million years thought I’d actually need to use the water I canned this summer… but today proved me wrong in the best (and most stressful) way possible! 😅
Back in the warmer months, I decided to test out my brand-new canner by running a full load of plain quarts of water. It felt a little silly at the time — just boiling and sealing plain water to “fill the canner” and practice my technique. I labeled them, stacked them neatly on the shelf, and honestly didn’t think much more about it.
Fast forward to today: our well pump decided to completely give up on life right in the middle of dinner prep. No water. Zero. Nada. The house was suddenly in full crisis mode, and all I could think was “well… I guess we’re about to find out if those canned quarts were worth it.”
I pulled out several jars, popped the seals, and used that perfectly clean, shelf-stable water to boil pasta and make a big pot of macaroni and cheese for the family. It wasn’t the fancy Christmas Eve dinner I had planned, but it was hot, comforting, and made with water I had preserved myself months ago.
There’s something incredibly satisfying (and a little surreal) about opening jars you canned just “for practice” and actually using them to feed your family during an emergency.
Now that the pump is fixed and we have running water again, I’m heading straight back to the kitchen to run another full canner load and start rebuilding our emergency water stash. Lesson learned: never underestimate the power of a little preparedness!
Who else has had one of those “I’m so glad I did the weird prep thing” moments? Because today definitely made me a believer. 💪🥫💧
