☝️ Visual Supports 👍
Visual aides are an effective way to support comprehension, improve literacy skills, promote independence, and so much more!! 🌟
This could be a topic or choice board, a first-then board, a visual schedule, or a low tech communication board - the opportunities for using visuals are endless! 🤩 I use visual supports for all of my students, each with a different goal in mind! In addition to supporting comprehension and promoting individual independence, they can be used to manage/avoid challenging behaviors.
Schedules can assist students with transitions, allowing them to understand what is coming next and see it in a clear cut and visual format. By providing students with the concrete and clear visuals of what is coming next, we may reduce some of their anxiety about abstract and unknown concepts ✅
Think about how most of us use a calendar or an agenda book to keep track of important dates and projects, we would be lost without it right? Let’s provide our students with tools to be successful learners and support their needs! 👌
