Harlem United

Harlem United Discrimination has destroyed the health of communities we love. Together, we can fix that. Harlem United has been advancing health equality since 1988.

Activists founded Harlem United in a church basement in 1988. At a time of extreme stigma, they created a compassionate community for loved ones dying of AIDS. Today, we provide world-class HIV care. And over the years, we’ve expanded to provide services for many other healthcare needs. We’ve advocated for social justice and remained rooted in our community. We’ll keep at it until we achieve health equality.

Stop Medicaid Cuts!!!!!

🚨3 Days Left to Save Medicaid! 🚨

House Republicans have postponed the vote which means now is the time to take action to protect Medicaid!

Though the vote has been postponed, House leadership is still set on passing these devastating cuts that would affect millions of Americans. The Partnership to End the HIV, STI, and Hepatitis Epidemics has released a joint press release urging Congress to reject these horrible cuts to Medicaid and attempts to block access to health care through work reporting requirements.

CHCANYS stands for Harlem United. And We stand with them. Oppose the proposed cuts to Medicaid. Our work - OUR COMMUNITY - depends on it.

CHCANYS Statement on Proposed Medicaid Cuts

“One in every eight people in New York relies on a Community Health Center for care – and more than 60% of those people are covered by Medicaid. The proposed changes to the Medicaid program would result in hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers losing coverage – putting patients and the CHCs that serve them in jeopardy. CHCANYS stands with Community Health Centers across the state and the nation in opposing Medicaid cuts.”
Rose Duhan, CHCANYS President and CEO

YOUR VOICE MATTERS! Medicaid and SNAP – essential programs that our community rely on are in jeopardy. The U.S. Senate is planning a vote this week on the house-passed budget resolution that contains trillions of dollars of cuts to vital programs, including SNAP and Medicaid. And why are these cuts being proposed? To put more money in the pockets of the wealthiest Americans. It’s ridiculous!

These programs are a lifeline for Harlem United clients, and millions of others across New York State and the rest of the country. Cutting them and/or including restrictive work requirements to access these entitlements (when many people who have them DO work already) will simply make it impossible for people to live healthfully. Our community deserves better.

Your representatives need to hear from YOU. Please call your senators today to tell them how vital Medicaid and SNAP are for you, your family and Harlem United clients.

Today, we joined the Supportive Housing Network of New York at the Rally demanding that DOGE stop their attempts to slash HUD staff and funding. Housing is a RIGHT and these cuts would only worsen the housing crisis for millions of people in New York City and across the State.
