What if the way you’ve been walking your entire life is actually hiding the very balance problems that could take your independence away?

Most people think “if I can walk forward fine, I’m okay.”

But research shows that forward walking can mask early balance and mobility deficits—especially as we age.

Here’s where it gets interesting…

When we introduce backward stepping and walking into physical therapy, something powerful happens:

➡️ It challenges your balance in a completely different way

➡️ It forces your brain and body to communicate more clearly

➡️ It improves how you control your steps, posture, and movement

➡️ It exposes weaknesses that forward walking hides

In fact, studies show that backward walking is a reliable marker of mobility and fall risk.

And, it can help improve balance performance when used as part of a structured program.

Why?

Because walking backward is less automatic. It requires more:

Awareness of your body in space

Coordination

Motor control

Attention to each step

And those are the exact things that tend to decline first with age.

This doesn’t mean walking backward is a magic fix.But when used correctly, it becomes a high-value tool to:

✔️ Improve balance
✔️ Build safer movement patterns
✔️ Reduce hidden fall risk
✔️ Maintain independence longer

The key is doing it safely and progressively—not just randomly trying it on your own.

Because the goal isn’t just to walk…

It’s to keep walking confidently, safely, and independently for years to come.

Calf or ankle pain during or after running?…

This might be your fix…

I learned this too late… as a Doctor of Physical Therapy…

If your knee pain “keeps coming back”… it’s not bad luck.

It’s a missed diagnosis.

Read this carefully

because this is where most people get it wrong:

You iced it.
You stretched it.
You foam rolled it.
You rested.
You even did physical therapy, chiropractic, or got a cortisone shot.

And for a moment… it worked.

But the second you went back to running, squatting, or lifting—

The pain came right back.

Same spot. Same intensity. Same frustration.

So what gives?

Here’s the uncomfortable truth no one is telling you:

Your knee might NOT be the problem.

In fact, after working with thousands of active adults in NYC, we’ve found something shocking:

Most recurring knee pain is coming from somewhere else.

• A stiff hip that can’t rotate properly
• A weak glute that can’t stabilize your leg
• A foot or ankle that collapses under load

Your knee is just the “middleman” taking the hit.

And here’s the kicker:

We’ve had clients come in with knee pain so severe they stopped running completely…

MRI: clean
X-ray: normal
“Nothing wrong with your knee”

Yet the pain was REAL.

Because the problem wasn’t where it hurt.

It was where no one was looking.

Once we stopped chasing the knee… and started fixing the actual source (hip, foot, ankle)

That’s when everything changed.

Running without pain.
Squatting without hesitation.
Confidence back.

No more temporary relief. No more guessing.

Just results.

So before you waste another month stretching your knee and hoping for the best…

Ask yourself:

“What if I’ve been treating the wrong area this whole time?”

If you’re serious about getting back to running, lifting, and living without limitations

Stop chasing symptoms.

Start fixing the cause.

Message us “KNEE” and we’ll help you figure out what’s REALLY going on.

Have you ever had a grandparent who trusts “the neighbor” more than their physician?… 😂

(No? Just .anniee and I, and ?!)

Who rubs an ointment onto their knee arthritis with a substance that’s actually meant for wound care, skin, and ear injections?! 😂😂😂

Healthcare friends, is this an off label use?! Chime in.

Ichthammol glycerin is a topical, bacteriostatic, and anti-inflammatory agent often referred to as a “black drawing salve.”

It is primarily used to treat skin conditions like chronic eczema, psoriasis, acne, boils, and to soothe bug bites.

It also helps draw out splinters, reduces swelling, and can treat ear infections.

Common Uses of Ichthammol Glycerin:

Skin Condition Treatment: Used to treat chronic eczema, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis.

Boils and Infections: Applied to boils, carbuncles, and abscesses to draw out infection and pus, and to relieve itching and inflammation.

Splinter/Foreign Object Removal: Known as “black ointment,” it helps bring splinters, glass, or thorns to the surface of the skin.

Bites and Stings: Relieves pain, swelling, and itching from insect bites, wasp stings, or spider bites.

Wound Care: Used for slow-healing, inflamed wounds with excess exudate.

Ear Infections (Otitis Externa): Glycerine-ichthammol is used to treat ear infections due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Irritation Relief: Helps soothe skin after hair removal (e.g., bikini waxes) and treats minor skin infections.
