Creating a neighborhood sangha

I have been practicing zen meditation for a while and I’ve always had a dream of starting a practicing group in my local neighborhood, that was inclusive from the very start. I saw a sitting group full of people with many different kinds of faces, who all came from different backgrounds and were united in their interest and dedication to the Way of Awareness. So in April and May of this year I started looking around for places that would host a small rag-tag band of Zen students, and pretty soon I met a friend in a local coffee shop in PLG, who pointed me to St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church. I set up a meeting with the warden there, and very soon after that, we had a space!

We are still in the process of growing this seedling of a community. Everyone who comes to practice is a part of that process. We are a humble, but mighty, DIY zen group--come join us and be a part of this group dedicated to loving-kindness, compassion, equanimity and joy! Join us in asking the age-old question: “What am I?” What does it mean to be a human being? What does this hungry, suffering world need?
