From a Level I Trauma Center in Queens to being a cornerstone of her community. This is what podiatric medicine looks like at its best.

Jaqueline Babayev DPM, AACFAS. completed her residency at a Level I trauma center in Flushing, Queens under the mentorship of Dr. Charles Lombardi, developing expertise in trauma surgery, elective foot reconstruction, and sports medicine. Today her practice reflects that full spectrum — minimally invasive procedures, hindfoot reconstructions, complex fusions, and acute trauma.

What keeps her coming back to trauma? In her own words: "You're always getting a patient better than where they were."

Beyond the OR, she's embedded in the very community where she trained. Taking call, responding to the ER, and collaborating across specialties. That's not just a career. That's a calling.

In recognition of National Walking Day, it’s an ideal time to reinforce the importance of proper footwear and gait mechanics in patient care.

Walking remains one of the most accessible and beneficial forms of physical activity. However, without appropriate support and biomechanical alignment, patients may be at increased risk for preventable foot and ankle conditions.

As podiatric professionals, we play a critical role in:
• Guiding patients toward appropriate footwear choices
• Identifying gait abnormalities through clinical evaluation
• Promoting long-term mobility and injury prevention

We encourage NYSPMA members to share evidence-based recommendations with both patients and colleagues today.

Big win for podiatry in New York 👣

Podiatrists across New York have secured a major milestone. After years of advocacy, the State Society and its members successfully pushed lawmakers to pass the SCOPE modernization bill.

This new law empowers Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) to perform the full range of procedures they are trained for—expanding access to care for patients and bringing New York in line with most other states.

This victory represents more than policy change—it’s progress for the entire profession. Residents, licensed DPMs, and podiatric teams can now provide more comprehensive care and better serve their communities.

The team advocated for Medicare Fee schedule reform, Diabetes foot health access and modernization act and Prior Authorization Reform. Visits included Senators Schumer, Kristen Gillenbrand, and members of congress - Tom Suozzi, Andrew Garbarino, Claudia Tenney, Jerry Nadler, Tim Kennedy and Nick Langworthy.
