Hard hitting new article about the harsh judgement of women's appearances and how perhaps we should slow our speculation as it can be harmful.
When arrived looking the tiniest bit snatched at a red carpet premiere this summer, the internet declared it her "new face reveal." Facelift and blepharoplasty rumors have been rampant ever since—even though, as Allure senior editor Nicola argues, she really doesn't look all that different. The internet has become quick to lob the phrase "new face" at any young famous woman whose face may or may not have changed slightly, and it's usually paired with tactless speculation about what procedures they must've had done. That's a big problem.
"Claiming that they’ve undergone surgical 'transformations,' as they’re often called, is in itself a big reach with no evidence behind it, for one," Dall'Asen writes. "But the fact that we’re so quick to use a term as extreme as 'new face”' is a sign... that we’ve become willing to disconnect ourselves from reality to justify our continued shaming of women’s appearances."
