Stress & Skin

Stress doesn’t just affect how you feel —
it can show up on your skin.

When stress levels rise, cortisol
increases, which can contribute to
breakouts, inflammation, and even
accelerate signs of aging over time.

Skincare isn’t only about products. Sleep,
nutrition, and stress management all play
a role in maintaining healthy skin.

Why Your Scalp Needs Spring TLC Too

The scalp is skin — it just happens to have hair.
Changes in weather, indoor heating, wind, and friction from winter hats can disrupt scalp balance during early spring.

A gentle cleanser, occasional brushing, and protecting exposed areas can help maintain a healthy scalp environment.

Don’t Override Your Derm

Not all skincare advice applies to
everyone.

What works for one person may not
work for another — especially when it
comes to active ingredients like retinol.
Small changes in how you use a product
can significantly impact how your skin
reacts.

If you’re under dermatologic care, it’s
always best to check before adjusting
your routine. Skincare is often
customized for a reason.

I had a time...whew! Highlights from my week at the American
Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in Denver.

✨Co-led the AAD's Media Training: Developing and Delivering Key Messages session

✨Spoke at multiple symposia and industry meetings

✨Participated in discussions with RoC and No7 on the latest advancements in skin longevity and anti-aging

✨Presented on how digital presence is shaping patient relationships

✨Connected with colleagues, industry partners, and attended several events throughout the meeting

✨Heard a life changing set by Questlove---I won't embarrass myself with videos of my face while he dropped those hits.

I’m grateful to have been invited to speak alongside such esteemed experts—truly the best in the field. Meetings like AAD are an invaluable opportunity to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and continue learning so we can provide the highest level of care for our patients.
Grateful to be part of this community and this work.

🔹Shoutout to Mount Sinai Dermatology for supporting me at all of my speaking engagements. I felt the love!

Derm Myth: You Don’t Need SPF Until Summer

Many people assume sunscreen only matters during summer, but that’s a common misconception.
UVA rays are present year-round. They can pe*****te clouds and even pass through windows, contributing to collagen breakdown and premature skin aging.
Daily sunscreen isn’t seasonal — it’s preventative skincare.

High-Low Skincare

You don’t need to spend a fortune on
every step of your routine.

A “high-low” approach can be a practical
way to build an effective regimen —
keeping basics like cleansers and
sunscreen simple, while investing more
in products that stay on the skin, like
serums.

Quality matters, but effective skincare
doesn’t have to mean expensive across
the board.

What to Do When Retinol Feels Too Strong in March

Seasonal transitions can change how your skin responds to active ingredients.
Wind, temperature swings, and lower humidity can stress the skin barrier — making retinol feel stronger than usual.
Instead of stopping completely, small adjustments like reducing frequency or buffering with moisturizer can help maintain results without irritation.

Consistency vs Complexity

A complicated routine isn’t always a
better one.

Consistency — using a few effective
products regularly over time — is often
what leads to real results.

Trying new products too frequently can
make it harder to understand what
actually works for your skin.

Salt Air + Winter Moisture Loss

Early spring weather can quietly dehydrate the skin.
Wind, indoor heating, and lower humidity levels make it harder for your skin to retain moisture — even when your skin doesn’t immediately feel dry.
Hydration isn’t just about adding moisture. It’s about helping the skin barrier keep it there.

BEFORE THE EVENT

I’m looking forward to co-leading the AAD Media
Training at the American Academy of Dermatology
Annual Meeting in Denver this year, along with two
other dermatologists and the AAD media team.

Our session, Media Training: Developing and Delivering
Key Messages, will focus on how dermatologists can
communicate clearly and responsibly across media and
social platforms, and why it’s important that accurate,
evidence-based information reaches patients.

If you’re attending , I hope you’ll join us on
Saturday, March 28 from 9:00–11:00 AM MST.

Why Your Barrier Needs a Reset in March

Seasonal transitions can be one of the most challenging times for the skin barrier.
After months of cold weather, indoor heating, and lower humidity, the skin’s protective barrier may already be depleted. As temperatures begin to shift in early spring, skin can suddenly feel tighter, more reactive, or easily irritated.
This is often a sign that the barrier needs support.

Instead of adding more active ingredients, this is a good time to refocus on repair — ingredients that help restore hydration and strengthen the skin barrier can help bring the skin back into balance.
Repair first. Treat second.
