R.I.P. Jellybean Johnson 🕊️
(November 19, 1956 – November 21, 2025)

Garry “Jellybean” Johnson was an influential American musician — a drummer, guitarist, songwriter, and producer — and a key architect of the “Minneapolis Sound.”
He was a founding member of The Time, known for working with Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Prince, and appeared in the film Purple Rain.
As a producer and session artist, he contributed to hit songs like Janet Jackson’s “Black Cat,” and worked with artists such as Alexander O’Neal, New Edition, and Mint Condition.
In his later years, he helped establish the Minneapolis Sound Museum, a project dedicated to preserving the musical legacy he helped build.
Jellybean Johnson passed away on November 21, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy within the funk, R&B, and pop music world.

Truly A Legend Indeed.

Remembering the great Coleman Hawkins (November 21, 1904 – May 19, 1969)
“Coleman Hawkins instantly established authority when he took the stage, before he had even played a note. Though short of stature, he was a handsome, solidly built man, impeccably dressed, with an aura that commanded respect. And once he began to play, his sound alone sufficed to seduce or arouse the listener, depending on the mood and spirit of the music being made” – Dan Morgenstern, Living With Jazz

Circa 1935. Mississippi Delta.
They earned $1.50 a day—on a good one.
But look at the style.
Wool vests. Brimmed hats. Pressed slacks.
Dignity was never out of fashion.

These men walked through poverty with their heads high and their collars higher.
Because sometimes, looking sharp was the armor.
Even when life wrinkled, they stayed pressed.
