Many NYC parents walk into their first CPSE or CSE meeting expecting guidance — and instead leave with more questions than answers.

Terms like IEP, evaluations, related services, and eligibility get discussed quickly, often without much explanation. It’s a lot to process in one meeting.

That’s why we created a new guide for families navigating special education in NYC.

In this article, we explain:

• What special education advocacy actually means
• How CPSE and CSE meetings typically work
• What parents should review before a meeting
• When families decide to seek outside guidance
• How remote advocacy can still support families effectively

Our goal is simple: help parents walk into meetings informed and confident.
