BIPOC SUPPORT GROUPS

A peer group for individuals who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC). They face unique racial, economic and cultural challenges in terms of being able to address their emotional health, the stigma associated with seeking mental health services as well as finding appropriate access to care. Covid-19 as well as the trauma of facing on-going racial disparity has added greatly to life stressors.

Join Jill Usdan on her creative journey as she welcomes you to help workshop her piece, "The Haunted Trumpet."
..This is a place where you can be yourself and face what haunts you. The show consists of Jill Usdan's original songs, stories, poems and tap dancing, and in the end it is a story of hope and resilience. The piece runs 45 minutes long, with a 15 minute talk back after the performance. The purpose of this workshop is to get feedback from the audience about what resonates, and to further the development of the piece. In this way, the audience is part of the creative process!..

The show is free of charge, but you have to sign up on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/d/ny--new-york/the-haunted-trumpet/

Place an object somewhere in your room which will remind you to feel grateful each time that you look at it. It can be a little sign that says “Thank You” hanging in front of your desk, or a door mat with the word “Welcome” written on it to remind you to be grateful each time that you arrive at home.

What is peer support?

Peer support is when people use their own experiences to help each other. There are different types of peer support, but they all aim to:

bring together people with shared experiences to support each other

provide a space where you feel accepted and understood

treat everyone's experiences as being equally important

involve both giving and receiving support.

Young adults are more in need of support than ever. Often, they relate best to people in their own age group. For over two decades, MDSG has given that option...whether we've called it 20somethings, Under 30, or now GenYZ (very clever, right?), we are there for you. (You are, of course, also welcome to join the diagnosis groups if that's more your speed.)

If you have a mood disorder and are interested in our GenYZ group, consider checking us out.

Groups are free of charge; donations are always appreciated, and any amount is welcome.

Here at MDSG, peers can talk about their depression. While we don't have all the answers, we can help open up a space where you will be heard and you can listen to those who may be facing similar challenges.
