MEET OUR TEAM

Dr. Christina Boyd is a board certified endodontist committed to providing the highest quality care to patients in a safe and comfortable environment. She earned her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from New York University College of Dentistry where she received multiple academic and clinical awards in Endodontics, leadership and advancement of dentistry, occlusion, and oral comprehensive care. During her dental school training, Dr. Boyd published an article in the Journal of Cancer Education on research to identify barriers to oral cancer screenings by dentists.

Dr. Boyd then completed a two year post-graduate residency in Endodontics at New York University College of Dentistry. She has also participated in numerous clinical outreaches here in the United States and globally to increase access to dental care for those in underserved communities. Her deep commitment and dedication to the profession was acknowledged when she was welcomed as a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. She attends local study clubs and national scientific meetings to remain active in her field and to stay current on the latest research, techniques, and technology.

Dr. Boyd is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association, and the New York State Dental Association.

During root canal therapy, the injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is disinfected. Once the tissue is removed, we use a filling for the tooth and seal it to prevent further infection. In our office, we use state-of-the-art GuttaCore technology and materials to fill the tooth. Root canal treatment can be completed in a single or multiple visits depending on the type of treatment required. The success rate is 90% and most patients are informed if there is a condition that may affect their chance of success.

This therapy involves the use of local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. Additionally, nitrous oxide analgesia can be an option.

After root canal therapy has been completed, you have the option of scheduling follow-up appointments for the restoration. Restoration generally involves placing a crown over the sealed tooth to protect your natural tooth structure and restore functionality.
