🥜 Most kids undergoing peanut desensitization will need exposure for LIFE.
Studies now show that unless a child begins treatment very early and has only mild initial reactions, true “cure-level” tolerance is rare.
For the majority, parents are told:
➡️ Continue peanut at least 3x per week—indefinitely.
And yet…
There are rare, mind-bending exceptions.
One of the most extraordinary cases published in a medical journal involved a young Israeli boy with a severe peanut allergy. He completed OIT, stopped for a period of time… and then was taken hostage on October 7th.
During captivity, he was unknowingly fed peanuts every single day.
He felt mild tingling in his mouth…
But never had a severe reaction.
Months in captivity. No anaphylaxis. No collapse. No emergency meds.
A terrifying ordeal—and a miraculous survival.
Doctors believe he was part of an extremely small group who achieve deep desensitization, even without ongoing exposure. But that’s the exception, not the rule.
For almost every child, protecting against life-threatening reactions means consistent lifelong exposure, not stopping once treatment ends.
Would you continue lifelong exposure if it meant keeping your child safe?
