Gamma Sigma Fraternity International was founded as the Gamma Sigma Society on October 11, 1869 at the Brockport Normal School in New York, today SUNY Brockport. Gamma Sigma became the first international high school fraternity.

Five of its members transferred to the Geneseo Normal School in 1871 and help form the Delphic Society, known today as the Delphic Fraternity.
