Breathing is not just automatic. It is foundational to health.

In Gasp, Dr. Michael Gelb and Howie Hindin explore the hidden connection between airway function, sleep quality, brain performance, and long-term wellness. The book uncovers why so many people live fatigued, foggy, and unrested and how compromised breathing during sleep may be the missing link.

Gasp reflects The Gelb Center’s decades of leadership in airway-focused dentistry and whole body care.

Could your child’s sleep be affecting their health?

Pediatric sleep apnea often looks different than it does in adults. Mouth breathing, loud snoring, restless sleep, night terrors, bedwetting, dark circles under the eyes, frequent ear issues, or grogginess during the day can all signal an airway concern.

Daytime mouth posture is especially important. If your child consistently breathes through their mouth, it may indicate disrupted breathing at night.

Early evaluation of the airway can make a meaningful difference in sleep quality, development, and long-term health.

Quality sleep does far more than restore energy. It plays a critical role in brain health and headache prevention.

Deep, oxygen-rich sleep supports the brain’s natural cleansing systems, helping reduce morning headaches, brain fog, and even long-term neurological stress. When breathing is compromised during sleep, these restorative processes cannot function optimally.

At The Gelb Center, we evaluate sleep, airway stability, and jaw position together because proper oxygenation at night is foundational to whole-body health and long-term wellness.

Your nose is more powerful than most people realize.

Chronic congestion and habitual mouth breathing have become increasingly common, especially among women and children. When nasal breathing is compromised, it can affect sleep quality, oxygen levels, jaw development, and overall health.

Understanding the role of the nose is the first step toward protecting the airway and supporting whole-body wellness.

Airway health matters.

TMJ issues are often overlooked because the symptoms can feel unrelated or easy to dismiss.

By identifying patterns early, we are able to better understand what the jaw is experiencing and guide care with precision and intention.

TMJ screening is about listening to the body before discomfort becomes chronic.

Gum disease is not just about oral hygiene. It is often influenced by how the body breathes and functions as a whole.

When airway restriction or mouth breathing is present, the gums can be placed under chronic inflammatory stress. Over time, this inflammation may affect not only oral health but overall wellness.

In recognition of National Gum Disease Awareness Month, this is a reminder to look beyond the surface and understand what the gums may be signaling about the body.

Harmful oral pathogens and chronic inflammation in the gums do not stay isolated to the mouth. They can influence systemic health, airway function, and overall wellness, making early identification and comprehensive evaluation essential.

Many families are unaware of how closely neurodevelopmental conditions and sleep are connected.

ADHD can make it difficult for a child to fall asleep or stay asleep and may be associated with sleep-related challenges such as restless leg syndrome, insomnia, and racing or difficult-to-calm thoughts at bedtime.

When sleep is disrupted in children, it can cause bed wetting, night terrors, and anxiety. Daytime symptoms can intensify, affecting focus, behavior, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Identifying and addressing sleep challenges is an important part of supporting a child’s development and daily function.

Healthy sleep is foundational to brain health, growth, and quality of life.

Airway problems are often hiding in plain sight, and many people do not realize the signs are visible right inside the mouth.

Airway health is not just about how you breathe at night. It leaves fingerprints on the teeth, the tongue, and the bite. Recognizing these signs early allows for a deeper understanding of overall health and function.
