Progressive Speech and Language P.C. Manhattan-based Speech-Language Pathologist serving children from the ages of 2-21. She also served as Director of The Speech Pathology Clinic.

Caryl Brief is a New York State-licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech, Hearing and Language Association (ASHA), and has permanent certification from the State of New York as a Teacher of Speech and Language Handicapped. She received her degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from Boston University, and her Master’s Degree from Teacher’s College, Columbia University.

After beginning her career working in several medically-based settings including hospitals and clinics, Caryl was appointed Assistant Professor in Behavioral Science and Community Health at NYU College of Dentistry in 1976. It was there that she instructed and lectured dental students as well as graduate dentists on the topics of speech, language, and dentofacial issues. Throughout this time, Caryl developed an expertise in speech pathology as it relates to oral cavity growth and development. Caryl’s consummate knowledge and gift for working with children served her well in her later work at numerous clinics, as well as both public and private schools. Specialties include speech sound delays, language delays, autism, apraxia, and non-verbal language disorders.

Throughout her career, Caryl has contributed to the education of many university speech-language pathology graduate students by lecturing and supervising their clinical training, as well as training clinical fellows working towards ASHA certification. In addition to her ASHA membership, Caryl is a member of the New York State Speech, Language, and Hearing Association.

A recipient of several ASHA Awards for Continuing Education, Caryl regularly participates in seminars, courses, and programs in order to maintain a dynamic and innovative program for her students.
