I’m excited to share my recent TED talk with you. My TED talk discusses how a deeper understanding of the biological aspects of mental illness can reduce stigma, inform better treatment, and I highlight the role of human connection in recovery.

TARA4BPD works with loved ones of people with BPD and those with lived experiences. Our goal is improving access to evidence-based treatment, and promoting research into new therapeutic approaches, including psychedelics and mentalization-based therapy.

Valerie Porr has been invited to the Karolinska Institutet to present a TEDX Talk in Stockholm, Sweden on March 29th.
A former NY fashion designer, Valerie shifted to mental health advocacy. She founded TARA4BPD, dedicated to supporting those with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) through education and advocacy. Now leading the BPD ENIGMA group, she explores innovative treatments, including psychedelics and mentalization-based therapy.

At TEDxKI 2025, she’ll discuss how understanding mental illness can reduce stigma and highlight the power of human connection in healing.

If you are curious or confused by the way you sometimes think, feel, or act, or wonder why it is sometimes hard to control your reactions to situations and other people, learning about how your brain works will help you understand and accept yourself.
