Doctors Council SEIU

Doctors Council SEIU Doctors Council: A United Voice for Doctors, Our Patients, & the Communities We Serve. It’s a role we take seriously, and one we’re proud of.

We are the Doctors Council - the country's largest and oldest union of attending physicians. We believe in quality, affordable, and safe health care as a basic human right and social good, accessible to all, regardless of insurance, economic status, ability to pay, race, ethnicity, citizenship or residency status, language spoken, or diagnosis. In a time when health care is rapidly transforming, it is our mission to ensure that the voices of frontline doctors and our patients are heard and respected when decisions about health care delivery are made. As advocates for our patients, we reach out into the communities where we work to enhance the doctor-patient relationship and ensure that our patients’ voices are heard, and that our patients are involved in their care decisions. Increasingly, we serve as advocates on behalf of all the people whose lives we touch when they need care. We work to ensure equal and timely access to patient care services in our communities, and work to remove barriers to or disparities in health care, especially in low-income, medically underserved, immigrant, and communities of color. In our traditional role as a doctors' union, we work to win contracts that recognize the valuable work of our members, improve the patient care experience, and create an environment where doctors and patients are treated with dignity and respect.

As we gather today to share a meal, whether with family, friends, neighbors, or new acquaintances, we are reminded of the comfort and connection that come from simply being together. These moments give us a chance to enjoy good company, reflect on the year, celebrate traditions, and appreciate the people who enrich our lives.

We extend our warmest wishes for a peaceful, joyful, and restorative Thanksgiving.

An 88% union YES vote and MGB is still stalling while primary care suffers and doctors walk out the door. Frontline physicians, patients, and labor allies are standing together to say: Recognize the union. Start bargaining. Put patients first. MGB can’t fix primary care without listening to the people who provide it.

The doctors' departures are expected to cost MGB millions of dollars in revenue.

“In an attempt to get to a fair contract, we presented Allina with multiple proposal changes today including articles on compensation, leaves of absence and PTO. Allina responded with only a single proposal. If we accepted what was on the table we would be facing decreased pay, worse benefits, and no help with staffing shortages or burnout. We will strike on Wednesday, November 5 and will keep working to protect Primary and Urgent Care.” Matt Hoffman, a member of the Doctors Council - SEIU bargaining team
