We’re in the depths of Winter. A season governed by the Water Element & the Kidney / Bladder System.
It’s intended for profound rest and regeneration. So, for all of you over-achievers: you have my permission to take a load off. Put the productivity aside for a little while.
In this season, the “doing” IS the resting.
And with all the colds and flus circulating and penetrating cold trying to noodle into every cranny, here is what you can do to protect yourself, keep warm from the inside out and be in tune with the season...
Nourishing Winter Foods & Hot Teas:
Bone broth is the pinnacle of Kidney nourishing food.
Winterize it with earthy grains (barley, spelt) root vegetables (parsnip, carrot, potato) and slow-cooked meats.
Warmth: Build a protective barrier from the cold with ginger & cinnamon tea. Ginger strongly warms the middle and promotes digestion while cinnamon takes that warmth and circulates it out tho the extremities Together, they boost your immune system like a shield.
Movement: Take it down a notch. We don’t need boot camp and HIIT classes right now. Walking, stretching, yoga are just right.
Light: We still need some light in our eyes for proper circadian rhythms. Try your best for some morning rays on your face. Inside, keep the vibes cozy with some candles. Burning logs in the house wasn’t just for practicality in the old world, but symbolized the life and light that is germinating from within, leading to Spring.
Cheer: One of my lovely patients waltzed through the door today with the brightest red sweater you’ve ever seen. She was aglow! She’s been wearing it every day, she said. The perfect antidote to dreary skies.
Oh, and get some acupuncture!
