Provider Spotlight: Dr. Ed Regner of Drive Physical Therapy

In this spotlight, we talk with Dr. Ed Regner, founder of Drive Physical Therapy, whose path into healthcare felt almost inevitable. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the medical field, Dr. Regner developed a strong appreciation for both the science and the human side of healing.

Dr. Regner shares the most common conditions he treats, including joint pain, muscle injuries, and chronic pain. But he also highlights one of the most surprising and impactful challenges he helps patients overcome: fear. Fear of pain, fear of reinjury, and fear of movement often sit beneath the surface, and addressing them is a critical part of recovery.

He also discusses the importance of pain science, adapting care as new evidence emerges, and why his highly personalized, 1:1 care model—including in-home visits and virtual sessions—allows him to meet patients where they are and deliver better outcomes.

From navigating practitioner burnout and challenging “need-based vs. greed-based” therapy models to practical guidance on nutrition, mindfulness, and sustainable lifestyle changes, Dr. Regner emphasizes that progress often starts with one small healthy decision that leads to many more.

Provider Spotlight: Dr. Edgar Chavez of Universal Community Health Center 🏥🤝

In this spotlight, we talk with Dr. Edgar Chavez, family medicine physician and founder of Universal Community Health Center (UCHC) in South Los Angeles. An immigrant who grew up in LA, Dr. Chavez draws from his own experiences navigating the healthcare system to address the gaps he saw firsthand—particularly within underserved and immigrant communities facing language and access barriers.

Dr. Chavez shares what inspired him to start UCHC, the realities of balancing patient care with the business side of running a health center, and the wide range of services his organization provides—including preventive primary care, behavioral health, dental care, podiatry, and more. Rather than narrowing his focus, he chose to build a model that serves the whole community, even expanding support beyond medicine through initiatives like a community food pantry.

He also debunks common misconceptions about community health centers—such as the belief that they only serve certain populations or offer lower-quality care—and explains where those assumptions come from. Dr. Chavez also speaks passionately about the role of electronic health records, AI, and automation in healthcare, encouraging providers to embrace technology as a tool to enhance care rather than fear it.

Throughout the conversation, Dr. Chavez offers thoughtful advice for both providers and patients, emphasizing the importance of proactive health decisions and using available resources to strengthen outcomes. He also reminds viewers that community clinics exist in every state—and encourages those in California, especially South Los Angeles, to explore the programs and services available at UCHC.

Provider Spotlight: Dr. David Felipe of SFR Physical Therapy ⚾🦵

In this spotlight, we talk with Dr. David Felipe, Vice President of Clinical Operations at SFR Physical Therapy in Miami, Florida, whose background as a lifelong athlete shaped his path into physical therapy. After years in the training room, Dr. Felipe found himself choosing between athletic training and physical therapy, ultimately pursuing PT as a way to help a broader population, not just athletes.

He shares both the most common and most misunderstood conditions he treats, including vestibular health—a specialty often associated only with older adults, but one he and his team frequently address in much younger patients as well. He also discusses the rise in overuse injuries among youth athletes, where year-round single-sport training place added strain on growing bodies.

He explains his personal approach to patient care, which centers on a family-oriented, deeply personal model, where patients are treated the way he would treat his own relatives. Family involvement, connection, and trust play a major role in the healing process at SFR.

Throughout the conversation, Dr. Felipe also debunks common misconceptions about physical therapy and offers thoughtful advice for both providers and patients. He strongly advocates for prioritizing health early, taking proactive steps now, and strengthening the body before problems become setbacks.
