Let's clarify some things. Good care comes from many places. It will not EVER come from a liar though.

We all see what we are living through right now, on a systemic and individual level. Finding resources that speak to the unique intersection of needs of the Black diaspora is essential to our collective well being.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, is meeting that moment. A full month of real tools, real community, and honest conversation about what it takes to stay grounded, care for ourselves, and resist in a world that demands so much from us.
I will be on the panel discussion Diasporic Healing As Resistance, and I want you in the room with me.

CareSource just told thousands of therapists they're clawing back payments and cutting reimbursements to 85%. That is a signal.

Before you panic or just start booking more clients, here's what I'd actually do first.

The therapists who will be okay are the ones who already know their numbers, understand where their income is fragile, and have been building something beyond one payer's approval.

This is exactly what we dig into at Beyond the Code: The Workshop on May 14th. If this carousel had you in your feelings, that's your sign.

They mean well. But a lot of the advice floating around about how therapists can make more money is just... more. More panels. More licenses. More clinicians under your roof.

But the truth is, more of the wrong thing is still the wrong thing.

Nobody told you that opening a group practice means you just became an HR department. Or that getting paneled with five more insurances doesn't change the math — it just multiplies the paperwork. Or that adding state licenses adds overhead, compliance risk, and renewal fees that quietly eat what you thought you were gaining.

So I want to ask you something: when you think about earning more, are you actually building toward freedom — or just building a bigger version of the thing that's already exhausting you?

That question is exactly what we're sitting with in Beyond the Code 2.

It's a virtual workshop for social workers and helping professionals who are ready to stop following advice that wasn't designed for them — and start making moves that actually fit.

Registration is open.

I was born in Guyana and I know nothing about Komfa, Hinduism, or any indigenous practice of the Amazon.

I was raised in the US. I Identify as Black and I know NOTHING about Hoodoo.

You only know what you were taught.

Colonialism and white supremacy did not skip the African continent or those born there.

Sometimes trauma doesn't show up it's always been.

You were born into it.

And still there can come a time when you know it has to be over.

Don't rush to the solution. Let the sadness, the grief, the confusion, the anger just be.

Jumping to fix the feeling doesn't honor the version of you who is also realizing there will need to be change and loss.

Sit with it first.

Trauma steals and you can get it back.
